I think anybody in a position of power or money is a target for false accusations. It could be to defame a political opponent or to get money from a legal settlement. Guilty people should be investigated and held accountable but when there's no proof of guilt I don't think it's fair to the falsely accused to strew that information to the public.

Not to mention the fact that one of the most moral and forthright men I've known - Merrick Garland - has been turned into a villain the eyes of the MAGAts. The reality is, this spectacle of the Epstein files wasn't acceptable among normal humans. The DOJ did their job independently of the Presidency (as much as possible), and didn't do so for attention or shock value. So, among normal humans, the Epstein files wouldn't be released.

BUT ... Trump swooped in and wanted to appease his crazy cult followers, so he put into motion the expectation that they would be released. So, he gave his critics ammunition. You said you'd release them .. so where are they? You convinced everyone there was something worthwhile to see in there ... and ... now there's nothing, and things are being held back. So you must be hiding something. You created this scenario where, on a good day, you're only bending the rules of the Constitution in the exercise of your powers. On a normal or bad day, it's much worse ... so, you're the Fuhrer, with nearly unlimited power ... show us the files.

As to the motivation ... you have to understand this is Trump. EVERYTHING he does starts with "how does this benefit me or make me look?" That's it. So, if the files were a big nothing burger, he'd release them.
