I still don't understand why the NCAA is basically the only organization that isn't allowed to make their own rules. It's not like anyone is being forced to play. It's completely voluntary. Let NCAA make the rules, and the players can decide to play or not...like every other league at every level. No reason that every little decision should be determined by courts.

My thoughts exactly.

I can't keep up. Just get rid of college sports. Keep the college names. Let universities choose if they want a professional team or not.
No doubt. I’m worn out with trying to keep up with all the twists and turns in the ongoing eligibility wars. I miss the old days when there were clearly defined rules for this stuff …and the courts stayed out of it.

I now think I’m just gonna wait til the season begins and then see who is and isn’t playing.

Just feels like half way through the season a team will ask a judge to get LeBron James eligible for them after he retires. Ik that's exaggerating but still I feel sorry for college coaches having to build a team not knowing who they can build with.

No organization can make rules that violate federal law. Other sports leagues generally have collectively bargained agreements that provide certain protections from antitrust challenges. The NCAA does not have that same protection, which is why its rules can be challenged under federal antitrust law.

There are millions of dollars at stake for some of these players. If the NCAA used even a shred of common sense, the courts would not have to be involved. Excluding one group of players from a 5th year produces very real financial harm and there's no reason for it. They want 5 in 5, then let everyone have 5 in 5. Arbitrarily ruling out one class is just ridiculous.

Because they're very plainly and clearly in violation of antitrust laws. Pro sports leagues have collective bargaining agreements, which is why they're not in violation of antitrust law.

I am not familiar with the intricacies of federal or state anti trust law, but this is now a state appellate court and a federal court of appeals that has overturned a trial court’s TRO in favor of the NCAA. I suspect that carries some weight when asking what the Ky Court of Appeals may do. In Colorado, the plaintiffs probably should ask for an en banc review, if the decision today was just a 3 judge panel.

Aberdeen entered the transfer portal on April 7, 2026, seeking a waiver to retroactively classify his freshman season as a redshirt year. During that 2022–23 season at Florida, he appeared in only 12 games and played approximately 41 minutes total. I don't think this has been resolved yet. I think the 5 in 5 made it unnecessary to go through with this once the 5 in 5 was approved in Colorado but what now? This was the original reason Denzel entered the portal.

Louisville 😂😂😂

That's priceless isnt it lol. Well now the cards will have a little extra money and can get Kelsey those lifts for his shoes that he has been dreaming about. This whole thing is just a joke now.

School is starting and the NCAA is worrying about one group of players getting an extra year.

Man, just give it up already and transition into the new 5 year rule going forward.

Totally agree and no common sense being applied at all .
How funny it would be if guys like Aberdeen and Trimble end up not being eligible all year after thinking they done it right while Mitchell is and hangs a 30 piece on both of those scrub schools
Would be glorious lol.

Everyone wanting one of these 5th year players...its plain to see... The NCAA does not want the 22 class in it... So state says they can play... So they do.. Then 3 months from now.... The NCAA finds a judge to overturn all this.... And now any game. Played by a team with one of these guys... Have to forfeit those games... Or the NCAA says.... OK... You can play them....you just can't play in the tourney.... Unless there is a desision at the federal level.... I would not touch any of these guys with a 10 foot pole... Just not worth it for the possible chance of hsvi g to have games voided... And/or miss the tourney... This is becoming a joke, and a mockery of the entire NCAA.... I hate the federal government... But this is one time they need to step in and put there foot down..

I’m guessing the first player (under a state TRO)to play a football game will cause NCAA to go silent. At least, football will get all the attention. Some SEC teams just took on players who literally played in NFL preseason games. Let’s hope football causes things to be a moot point before basketball rolls around.

I will always be a UK fan. It's in my blood. But if they continue embracing this garbage, then I have no reason to watch the games. I no longer have an attachment to players. They couldn't give two ***** about UK.

I could see him getting an exemption if they allow the redshirt but the fact he’s over ten games might hurt him.

NCAA is horrible at picking their battles. If they just would have punished UNC instead of saying that fake classes and fake grades were ok then they could have continued the "student-athlete" charade. It all fell apart then.
