It would be interesting to oil reserves vs oil consumption . My point being both parties have used our strategic oil reserves for manipulating oil/gas prices for political reasons with little or no care for what they are there for . OFF WITH THEIR HEADS !......all of them .
The chart shows oil reserves that are proven to be there for extraction, not strategic reserves. Our strategic reserves only hold a little over 700 million barrels maximum. Your point about the SPR stands considering it was created to keep our military functional in a crisis.
I wasn't disagreeing with you. Trump wanted to completely fill the SPR during COVID when oil bottomed out and Congress said it was a waste of money (laughable). Every time he and other presidents have sold off SPR it has been for political points with negligible effect on oil prices.
Short-mid term: I'm more concerned about our missile depletion/ability to defend ourselves while also pissing off the rest of the world...China is the primary benefactor of this and pretty clearly sees our military and financial spend against Iran as a good thing for them. They get to pretend to be diplomatic while watching us deplete resources that could have, at a minimum, be focused on competing with them. Beijing is vying to be what the US once was; a stabilizing power.
Yup. We’re going to destroy those salt domes. But nothing was worse than democrats refusing to refill them when oil was dirt cheap because they viewed it as a bailout of oil companies instead of recognizing that we could keep oil prices a little more level and save a **** ton of money.
You also have to see it as bringing attention to the matter. Do you think if we went to war with China we'd be able to hit then stop a few weeks then hit again, etc. This has brought attention to our deficiencies and this administration is working to revamp it. This administration didn't create the lack of manufacturing but it sure if poking holes in our "readiness". It's better to find this out now than in a larger conflict.

You have a much better opinion of launching an ill advised unwinnable war that pushes economic hardships on the country that simply are not necessary. I realize that we’ve decide we are a country of war instead of defense but if it took this stupidity for the FOTUS to realize that there aren’t an infinite number of missiles available and that complex system like that have substantial lead times, we are in pretty bad shape. I also can’t imagine a scenario where competent leadership goes to war with China…
