She sent her husband out for errands and then strangled all 3 of her kids (5, 3 and 8 mos) then jumped out a window, presumably to try killing herself.

Defense is chalking it all up to postpartum depression and says she should not be held criminally accountable.

The wild thing is, she's getting an outpouring of support from women online who are sympathizing with her. Bizarre.

In what world could a man ever strangle his 3 children and folks say "Ah, well, he was just depressed."

Even IF by some chance she only did b/c she was out of her mind, isn't that all the more reason to put her in jail? I never really understood the insanity defense. "Well, he/she only murdered the person b/c he/she was out of his/her mind and shouldn't be found guilty." By all means, let crazy people who murder others b/c they're crazy just walk the streets.

It‘s the “public opinion” influence, and exactly what the defense is seeking.

If Hitler was on trial today, there would be sympathizers on social media calling for his release. You can always count on some being persuaded by the emotion of the situation rather than guided by principles and values.

There is clear evidence of murder but the excuses/motivation is just speculation.
If we release criminals based on speculation and sympathy we are in deep trouble and are not following the law.

My wife is following this one. I haven't paid much attention to her when she talks about it. Apparently she was on a ton of prescription drugs over 6 months prior to the incident. Prescribed by someone who just received their license to do so. Maybe she needed them or was forced. The suspect is an RN or someone in the healthcare industry. Questions are being raised about searches that are on her phone or computer for things that any nurse or healthcare worker would easily know. Like where is the carotid artery. There are a few other things I don't remember, but enough to say huh. So there are some questions or she is dumb as rocks.

She apparently had an emotional breakdown in the courtroom that engendered a lot of sympathy.

I saw one comment repeated in the comment sections.

The prosecutor: She did it
The Defendant: I did it
The defense: She did it

Netflix fans : It must be the husband!

I`m mixed on this one. Susan Smith was pretty cut & dried since she made up a lie to try and get out of it. This woman did/does clearly have mental issues, whether it was postpartum depression or a major depression with psychosis. She was tried on numerous meds as above, checked herself into a psychiatric facility for a few days(not sure when), searched all kinds of things on the internet. etc. Very much a tragedy obviously - either very sick or very evil or some of both. To go to the extent of cutting herself and throwing herself from a window, resulting her being permanently paralyzed & in a wheelchair, indicates to me that her mental state was likely not rational at the time. Of course you could say anyone that could do that knew what she was doing, she likely knew right from wrong and I know she took some steps that appear to show it was clearly planned out to a certain extent. I would have to hear more testimony and see more evidence to know which way I would go in terms of verdict but this case is clearly more complicated than the Susan Smith one and others. Speaking of that, wasn`t Casey Anthony(think that was her name) found not guilty of killing her daughter many years ago? I thought she was guilty as sin. If I was this woman I think I would prefer to stay in a state of psychosis the rest of my life than have to think about what I did to my 3 children every day. Also, Alex Murdaugh is guilty not even a doubt.

Yep. This one is different. While tragic, this woman can demonstrate that she was constantly reaching out for help.

Just a very sad story.

I guess when a dog goes wild and kills a child or an adult, we should excuse that as the dog "not being in his right mind and obviously mentally disturbed". I think people who are mentally ill to the point of killing other people should be "put down" as quickly as possible to protect the rest of society.

Just to clarify I didn`t excuse her actions - I`m not sure about this one and I`m a lock them up throw away the key kind of guy. I wish we had the death penalty for 1st degree murder and get rid of some of the dregs of society that are costing the rest of us money and lives. The guy that killed Logan Frederiko right here in Columbia is a perfect example. I`m sorry but you cannot rehabilitate a chronic offender like that. The judges need to be held accountable and some of this stuff would be preventable if they were held liable for letting these people with rap sheets a mile long of violent acts back on our streets to claim more innocent victims.

My wife thinks the dad did it, so I'm not allowed to talk about it.
I kinda think he may have, honestly. Dude was already having an affair, and all of his actions and supposed alliby reasons are either debunked or sus.... If he didn't do it himself, he certainly didn't stop it from happening.

If we get tangible evidence he did it fair, but he was a cheater and my gut thinks this isn’t tangible.

She has still not denied doing it at all.

At this point, the husband's biggest crime seems to be that he is a very unlikable person. I haven't followed it too closely, but the wife seems to have admitted to killing the kids.

The wife admitted to it and her lawyers conceded that she did it in court.

There really is no doubt she did it. Imo, its just a discussion of what drove her to it.

That is what I thought the situation was. The whole "the husband did it" seems to be driven by women looking for some drama.

Executing the wife seems to be the best thing for everyone involved, even the wife. She is paralyzed from the chest down and her life going forward, even if she is somehow found not guilty, is going to be horrible. Being in prison or a mental hospital in a wheelchair seems like a punishment worse than death to me.

One commentator noted very correctly that if she had strangled 3 dogs, she would not have one single defender for her actions.

Even if, by some chance, she has a "legitimate" psychological reason for doing what she did, isn't that all the more reason to segregate her from society? Do we want a society of crazy people walking around on the streets who could snap at any time and kill people?

Somebody wants it because that is what we have.
It boggles the mind.

"Oh, she only snapped and murdered her kids b/c she's insane. She should be free to walk the streets."

At what point did we decide that being insane was a good reason for letting murderers walk the streets?

About the same time we decided as a society that everyone has to go along with and accept as fact the mental illness of a man pretending to be a woman and vice versa.

A lot of people who commit murders are deranged. Would anyone argue that Jeffrey Dahmer wasn't crazy? You could not possibly do what he did and be right in the head. But he was still held accountable.
