I HATE it when this happens! And it's gonna happen soon.

Those poor (and I mean poor) Alabamians. "Trump said he was not gonna screw us over like this! Why did I vote for him?" (Why, indeed.)

Trump’s $500/month Social Security cuts will go nuclear in Alabama: report
this is almost hilarious. Now I do believe that Americans might believe that the 2032 social security cuts - if it actually happens - is Trump's fault (in 2026) when we've known about this for decades...even all gore brought it up in the '90s. Since then we've had how many Presidents/congresses and they've failed to actually fix the problem,

I also believe that many Americans don't believe that the OBBB helped, them, because it didn't. I know it didn't help me, likely didn't help you much either - unless you're working for tips.

But, no matter, republicans are going to get a wake up call in 2026. They're cutting free stuff and voter don't like that

Wow, “They're cutting free stuff and voter don't like that”. What happened to us? This is pathetic.

Even trump and republicans have stolen pages from the playbook..no tax on tips or overtime or social security...in an era of $2 trillion deficits.

Not cutting free stuff, but adding to it...

Please man. DAMN NEAR EVERY ONE of these folks voted for him. And it's not like he and his folks didn't say it was coming. After all when he promised that he wouldn't touch Social Security, who ACTUALLY believed him? The saddest thing is that every one of these folks that voted for Trump is going to turn right around and vote for Tuberville as their governor and whoever is the Republican candidate for POTUS in 2028. All the while wondering why this is happening to them.

Hell, if Trump did run for a 3rd term, he'd say something like blaming Obama for the cuts and they'd all vote for him AGAIN. So do I feel sorry for them? Yep. I actually still do. They just don't know any better.

Nope, this is a program that they've been paying into for their entire working lives that the US Government (both sides) have mismanaged right into the ground. It's NOT free stuff. Not not a choice they made. They HAD to pay into the system that promised them a pension at the end of their working lives.

SS cannot die soon enough.
Ok, lettuce discuss.

I think Social Security is a necessary government program. At some age people can't work. They physically can't do it. At what point is debateable, I agree.

However, no one want's a society with old people on the street without the ability to earn an income. That's not a good society to have old people dying on the street.

How do you propose we deal with old people with no savings, no income, and no ability to work?

Not taxing isn’t the same as giving away something that others have to pay for.

Perhaps I misread. I don’t see where he mentions a specific program. He later responded by comparing it to not taxing tips. What are you saying?

Maybe so... the OP posted a thread with this title:

Trump’s $500/month Social Security cuts will go nuclear in Alabama: report

I assumed since that was the topic of the thread, he was talking about Social Security cuts to people in Alabama.
Correct, I was responding to Ned’s post and his assertion that “voters were angry they weren’t getting free stuff” not the OP. SS is complicated and a mess. One guy that had a great idea (in hindsight albeit) was W, he proposed allowing people to invest 10% of what they paid into SS into the market. What a great incentive to work, save and invest. Oh well.
