I disagree. This is just lighthearted trolling back and making fun of…I think none of this is why it got paywalled.

IMHO it got paywalled because people would respond with their own vitriol and then both sides would complain to mods. I think that incessant need to complain about posters and specific posts is why it was shut down, not making fun of or calling them out like you are seeing here.

It is for sure just easier to ignore most, especially the sociopaths with 69 handles. But sometimes it is enjoyable to mock and point at them and laugh too.
Similar to what I mentioned earlier. The only way tom would allow it back is if he plans to ignore everyone sending messages to him crying about so and so.
but how long will it be until some posters get mad that he isn’t doing anything about certain posters like he previously did.

You and many others seem to enjoy pulling the “it was a joke” card when you’re too far gone.

Was in it allowed to invite posters to this free board? Posters that happen to have similar political thoughts that I have? You’d prefer keeping it all an echo chamber everywhere you go. But that’s right, you don’t have a political preference. You just hang out with one side and defend them and bash the other side.
Dude, you should read my posts before you respond because you're arguing with positions I didn't even take.

I never said you weren't allowed to invite anyone. I said you chose to send up a flare and bring certain people over, and that was your choice. Those are two completely different statements.

And go back and read my post #241. I specifically listed several posters...Rifler, Faulty/YellowSnow, Riveting, Bel, Tarheel, and others who have different or varying political views from mine and with whom I have no problem having actual discussions. That pretty much 100% nulifies your "echo chamber" accusation. My political independence doesn't mean I have to pretend every person on every side is equally reasonable. It means I judge the argument and the behavior, not the dadgum team jersey.

And the "it was a joke" thing? I already explained it...twice now I think. The joke was based on an actual fact of what Tom told us as to why the HROT was shut down. I'm not using me joking to avoid responsibility, I simply explained it. Again, you didn't like the answer. ...it's clear all you want to do is argue and pick fights and then wonder why you're not liked.

I do not agree with your characterization of the interaction. I had been participating in the thread in question prior to responding to one of your posts. I did not challenge you or otherwise ask you to criticize my opinions. I never made any demands of you, which -- of course -- I would not, as I have no power to demand anything of anyone here. I also did clearly describe my political beliefs, and I had already done so in that thread prior to engaging you. If you believe that my asking a single question of you with no insults or assumptions or critique directed at you is aggressive, then I truly do not understand your perspective. I do appreciate your acknowledging that I disengaged the conversation without insulting or otherwise antagonizing you.

Perhaps you are the one letting your interactions with others in that thread and this one, which I do not believe that you would object to being described as being antagonistic, if not aggressive, cloud your perceptions of our exchange.

Regardless, you are clearly more apt to engage in aggressive argumentation than I would prefer, therefore I will leave you to it.

Not sure why the attempts to recharacterize what you did in that thread, as there's evidence - the thread itself.

No, you did not clearly describe your political beliefs, hence the reason I asked you for them - you only described a vague overall political ideology, and then asked me to tell you which of your beliefs were extremist. I asked you to share your actual beliefs, and you refused ... repeatedly restating your question/demand, rather than aid the process of actually getting your question/demand answered. It was aggressive and harassing. It showed no desire to actually communicate and discuss, but was more of a passive-aggressive form of harassment.

See, the whole point of my involvement in that thread was to point out that the details matter, and are what should be judged, when it comes to determining which political beliefs are beneficial. Vague statements are meaningless, at best, and often times cover for a detailed plan that wouldn't be looked upon kindly or otherwise accepted. And this is true on the right, and on the left, and everywhere in between. That's what I conveyed.

Some folks (like Jerome) took exception to that, though their arguments seemed wrong-minded (irrelevancy, etc.) and/or disjointed, which I pointed out while repeating my thesis in varying ways.

Your first contribution to that thread was on page 3, where you posted, to no one in particular:

I am a far left, liberal progressive who has voted for Gavin Newsom (twice), Kamala Harris (three times), despite thinking that they are more moderate than I would prefer. And yet, nothing attributed by posters in this thread to far left, liberal progressive like me has been accurate thus far.

OK, a strange contribution, but you said your piece ... to whomever it was addressed to. It wasn't clear what you thought was attributed to you in that thread, nor how those attributions were incorrect ... but you said what you said.

Later, on page 4, you again "contributed" when you asked, to absolutely no one in particular: What are my extremist views, as a far left, progressive liberal? Odd to just float that to no one, but OK. No one responded, except Jerome, in a chummy manner in an effort to lay snark on some generic opponent.

Then TC_Nole_Ox asked me: Speaking of details, can you provide some examples of "far left progressive extremism?" In response, I stated: "Sure ... tell me the details of how you plan to implement your core beliefs if you take political power."

The salient point being, once again, that the devil is in the details. Empty platitudes and vague labels aren't going to cut it, and are often used to hide troublesome realities. He again demanded examples, and I explained, again, that it was up to him to provide details ... at which point, apparently, he wasn't getting his "gotcha" moment, so he fled.

Then, you swooped in with your first message directed at me ... but it was in response to my reply to TC_Nole_Ox about needing the details of his core beliefs, and how he wanted to see them implemented if his "side" took power ...

I do not plan to implement my core beliefs through public policy, as I have no desire to run for political office. I certainly have no plan or intention to “take political power.”

I am still curious what extremist beliefs you believe that I have as a far left, liberal progressive.

First, this was confusing, as you hadn't talked to me prior, but you were acting as if this was some continuation of a prior exchange (I am still curious ...). Regardless, this was a bad dodge, by you, on TC_Nole_Ox's behalf, as my statement was obviously getting at what would actually happen if someone advocating his political ideology took power and attempted to implement his core beliefs ... and you attempted to evade this ask (even though you weren't involved in the conversation) by stating you, specifically, weren't running for political office (an irrelevancy). But, here you are, with your first direct request of me. I'm left to wonder (not really ... it's pretty clear they were, in retrospect) if those 2 previous thread contributions by you were meant to be directed toward me, but you either couldn't figure out how to reply directly to me, or you were being incredibly passive-aggressive.

My response:

Don't evade ... I was speaking to the royal "you." What detailed plans do you wish to see implemented if the progressives (your ideological brethren) take political power (enough to enact laws, enforce laws and interpret laws)?

So there we have it, the initial exchange. I had already dealt with a similar request from another poster, and had already established my stance on what I required to address the situation (which that other poster was unwilling to provide), and you swooped in to ask it again, in a slightly different form. I again asked for particulars, because it was necessary, and integral to my initial statements that the devil is in the details, so we need to work with particulars.

Your response? Evasion and repetition. You appear to respond to me, even though you didn't quote me, by stating: I am not evading anything. I don’t have any detailed plans that I wish to see implemented. What extremist beliefs do you attribute to me?

And so it went back and forth, with you asking what extremist beliefs I attributed to you, and me asking for the specifics of your beliefs, so I can judge which ones are extremist, and you attempting to evade answering ... until I finally swiped away all potential evasions and asked you: What things do you want to see changed in our society and by what government actions?

And you never responded.

So, it's clear that you were the aggressor in our exchange. The passive-aggressor, in some respects, but the aggressor, nonetheless.

And what exactly was your issue with me inviting other posters over then? Why did you feel a need to mention it? Also it was a joke when I sent it out to them anyway.

Tom appears to be allowing time for current subscribers to comment on returning to a free board format,... Right now I'd say it's running about 55% pro vs 45% con....

8/19/26 12:25 PM - edited after actually counting comments.
I will also add and Rifler can correct me if I'm wrong. The ones against, many of those are not adamantly against. More so they enjoy not seeing the constant back and forth bickering that goes on. Obviously sometimes it got a little personal and childish. And while I do not get too involved in the personal side I'm still a kid at heart and I'm immature. ;) So I at times enjoy sifting through it and also enjoy some of the childish antics. I do think many of us could step up a bit and maybe take the high road. As we have learned from our favorite poster on this site. Sometimes it is not THAT important to always get the last word in.

He doesn’t understand that I was calling out tom for being the POS that he was/is. Ole troll poster lunchbox and yourself for that matter appear to be clueless. If I could change it, I’d probably change the part about tom to something like lunchbox is a troll. But then again I’d probably be crying about something.

It’s odd to me that so many of you are needing HROT back when you’ve turned this site into the same thing? So you all really need a mod to cry to when someone hurts your feelings? How is it any different here compared to how it was on HROT?
As one poster said in regards to Tom's question(Sorry I can't remember the poster but he's on here obviously. Maybe Chuck Higgins). I think it's more of not wanting to go back and forth between sites. Many of us are paid subscribers who get their Hawkeye news from the Lounge. I know minor inconveniences. Reminds me of the following song if anyone wants to listen. Probably not for high T posters but anyone low T.

That me and Tenacious (who you quoted) "...need a mod to cry to when someone hurts your feelings?" as a reason to re-open HROT.

It's really quite simple.

1. The orange over here is turrible!
2. There are still posters on HROT who aren't over here like 2boysmom and others, so it'd be nice to get everyone back together in one place.

Nothing overly complex.

Who are the ******** that don't want us back?
Well one was Covfefe Hacker. But I would imagine most of that is politically motivated. While he is a great supporter of the University and appears to have some inside info, his cryptic messages that are all over the place and attempting to make himself look smarter than he is really rubs me the wrong way. If it doesn't open back up I will provide some other names. And like I mentioned in a different post. They are not staunchly against, many just prefer less of the garbage that is sometimes on that board.

Ya, my bad. I had said her "and others" and apparently gibbs needed a full list like, 3boysmom, bins, swagsurfer02, etc. I also would like to have access to many of our existing threads. It's a PITA trying to remember things when we can simply hit "search" and resurect a thread. But in his mind it's 100% about crying to a mod.

You don't even know what "obtuse" means, Gibbles.
You can’t even deny on a random message board that you and McLovin aren’t the same poster.

I could see how this makes sense but the people posting regularly on this site most likely aren’t posting on the iowa sports sites. I don’t even think a majority of them know what sports are. And if they are getting their news from the lounge, why would they want the free loaders back on there.

I went over there and got the premium content message, and clicked to subscribe, but they would require to start over with a new account. I can't lose all of these likes - way too much street value.

Thank you for sharing your perspective on that interaction. Although my perspective is quite different, I appreciate your communication. In order to avoid having that impact on you in the future, I commit to not directing any questions your way. I wish you well!
