This is a good question for those who went to Gordon Tech, Weber or Driscoll but everyone can answer.

Or

Who do you have listed as your "favorites" in your Hudl App?

If I didn't go to MC, I'd probably loathe MC....it would be like rooting for the Dodgers 😂. But I did, so I'm pot committed.

Within the CCL I have grown to immensely respect St. Rita. They are cut from the same cloth as MC not only athletically but with a very proud and loyal alumni who are truly invested in their school and its well being decades after they leave. So many of my friends sons and my own kids friends went to Rita and just boys from the area I live in, I've never rooted against them unless they play MC. That rivalry is currently paused but I hope it is brought back sooner then later.

I also root for JCA as they are a fellow Carmelite School and the games MC played against them for about a 15 year stretch were some of the best games I saw. Go Brown and White!

Public League teams, Suburban wise, I just have no ties or real knowledge about any of them...I like a good rags to riches story of a team that comes out of nowhere and wins it, but I'm a City guy so for a Public team I respect and go for Simeon and Morgan Park.

While some CPS teams have been flash in the pans these two have been consistently good for decades, especially Simeon. I've worked a lot of bad cases around Simeon and seen things that most of you don't want to see, and yet so many of the athletes that go to Simeon are fully committed to their team....Al Scott and Dante Culbreath did just an amazing job at producing great team after team and sending many on to College, it's not easy and while not everyone who played there is a success story while playing Football for Simeon they were 100% committed. Their athletic success is across the board in Basketball and Baseball too.

Morgan Park is the CPS school by me that is not classified as a selective enrollment or alternative school and get kids from within their boundaries and also excell and many sports across the board, Football there has been very competitive for many years!

Oh yeah, and Leo!!! The little engine that keeps on rolling!

St. Rita has become my adopted second favorite CCL team.
I keep a decent eye on Hersey.
I’m in person at every Lockport game and will be for the next 5 years.
They’ve been talking about it since the early 80’s but are they still talking about making Lockport 2 four year high schools?

East Side, ICCP, Wilmington, The Brook, MC(less these days because they're losing that aura of legacies. I was talking to an MC grad who I coach youth football with and he said that this is not the MC he attended. They had 1 maybe 2 scholarship guys, let alone 18 power 4 kids. It's a new era)

Teams I love to dislike:
Loyola, Rochester, Maine South, Viator, Notre Dame.

I'm not disagreeing with what your MC alum friend said but it's just a different era and generation of kids that's all gimme and a lot of sense of entitlement. Now that money is on the table with College NIL deals and high schoolers getting agents it's just a new era that a lot of us are wrapping our heads around. Sad thing is it's going on at most schools. I know a ton of BR alums that are pissed that BR is no longer the "Neighborhood School" and they sold out but a lot of them were the same ones several years ago that were complaining that they never win.....damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Tell your MC friend that no student there is getting a free ride, someone is paying on their behalf either through a funded scholarship where it's funded through the family or the originators.....mostly alums. And back in our days at MC very few scholarships were given because not many existed because the cost of tuition was a lot lower because of higher enrollment and less expenses.....it was just the old building and a gutted out classroom as the weight room. Improvements and additions had to be made.

The way we were coached, disciplined, talked too, treated, it just wouldn't fly in today's time. I feel like the old guy when I was a kid saying "That damn Rock and Roll" 😀, but it's true.

I don’t always agree with you but this is spot on. It’s just a different world today. MC wouldn’t have 4 titles in a row if they were still the same legacies that they used to have. my buddy had some stories of the old freshman coaches like Barz, Harnedy, etc. He was a mid 90s guy but we were laughing about how big bonecrusher(don’t know his actual name) and he told me that they had a guard that was 5’5” 260 who was a complete beast. Haha. I wonder if anyone would know who he’s talking about bc he didn’t tell me the name just the description.

As far as the way you were coached. Good grief I’ve heard some stories of the old days at a lot of high schools not just MC.

One of my favorites was a suburban public high school head coach who had a sophomore OL up on varsity who was excellent but wasn’t using the right technique. He was trying to lead with his head. To fix that the coach made him practice LIVE without a helmet for a week.

I said it once before, but the CCL is like a dysfunctional family. We hate each other during the regular season, but come playoff time, when you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. Obviously I want STL to win, but in the playoffs, it’s CCL vs everyone. People on the outside (particularly those that didn’t grow up on the south side) will never understand.

I think it's tossed around here and there but no one will pass a referendum for a new HS + politics involved. They are fine with one HS with the Fr and So/Jr/Sr campuses. AS a parent, I have no qualms about LTHS at all, great experience so far.

LOL, how did you know?

1. Benet
2. West Aurora
3. Plainfield North
4. Minooka

That's really it, I thought there may be more.
Why West Aurora? That’s an interesting list but I don’t really have a dog in the fight for those far south suburb schools. Benet is easy to understand. Everyone hates them. I really don’t dislike them but I’ve never had beef with anyone from benet and I’m slightly partial to their head basketball coach. He’s a great coach and recruiter.

East Aurora Alum, which is really where my disdain for Benet comes from, although from the basketball side. Probably the two best HS basketball games I've ever attended were EA/Benet at EA, both of which left me disliking the private school from Lisle with a great passion (even though EA won them both).

Yes, everyone can just put Benet #1.
I like Benet hoops. I like the blazers and khakis. Sue me.

The football team I watch the most outside of The Brook is East Side. I like the style of ball they play and the moxie. I pull for conference opponents and down programs. Have a respeck for LWE.

most hated: Romeoville (but I feel bad about it now), Andrew, and Providence. Those last two could go 0-9 and all would be right in the world.
