That is our song. We're not going to change it and we're not giving it up. It has nothing to do with what players do on the field. Coaches plan and manage. Players make plays. And coach Stein is bringing in the players to get it done. Leave our history alone.

I never said to give it up. Just play it after the game. It's not about the players or coaches. It's about the fans.

Tradition??? When did they start playing it before the game (granted I've not been to a game in Rupp since before COVID). The tradition is to play it AFTER the game.
That is exactly the problem and the difference between how the football and basketball programs are treated.
MOKH is NEVER played before home basketball games except on senior night in all my experiences.
Yet it's played prior to kickoff at home football games. Its a slow, boring song that is often bood by the opposing crowd and is too lame to even yell out to drown out the boos.
It is a great post game song to sing after a win as the opponent files out but a TERRIBLE pre game hype song.
It sucks before the game and the powers that be know better than to do it to the basketball program.
Hopefully Stein stops this crap and creates a better pre game atmosphere.

Play it after the game like the basketball program does. It sucks before a football game.

I don’t think you have been to a football game. I have been to many and have NEVER heard a boo during the song. Go away.

I've never thought much about the song other than it being tied to the program. When I hear it I never thought to myself this is good or bad. Just a Kentucky song. I guess I like it for the situation i would hear it in.

But is there a thing where fans have to like a song like that? It's not very upbeat or happy sounding. At least West Virginia take me home song is up beat and you can sing along with it.

MOKH isn't the best song if we're just talking music alone. But tradition wise I guess it's a ok song.

The original thread made no specifications to sport. The OP made a vague post and not until this past weekend did i see it updated to include football n the title.

I agree with others that it seems like a song u play after a game. But not my call.

I just wish they would completely stop playing Bitter Sweet Symphony for highlight videos and such before basketball games. Its so overplayed and dull, no one is getting excited and hyped after hearing it. Its like we only have five songs on repeat every game.

I doubt many people in this thread have or will travel to Kyle Field, but those who want to do away with a special unique tradition will be astounded by what they see should they make that trip.

Does it involve playing a slow boring song that doesn't get anybody hyped?
Dude, because you lack spirit does not mean people are not hyped. If you love football, you don’t need something external to get you hyped. I had season tix for years and was in my seat early and up bouncing and making noise by kickoff. Love the sport and the team and the song won’t matter. Love the state and the song matters.

Dude. Season tix for 17 years. Rarely sat down during the games and leaving hoarse. I've got plenty of spirit. I'm just telling you what I see in the overall crowd. It sucks the life out of the stadium. It's not about me. It's the overall scenario.

Play it after the game

False. It does not. The crowd and team are on fire for most kickoffs. The song does not diminish anything. You must be drunk by kickoff or not in your seat.

and, your claim above contradicts your claim about the song. 🤦‍♂️

Play it after the game
Bad hot take.

Thats not crazy. I'm the same way. Love my old Kentucky home. They would be crazy to get rid of it. But warm ups or mid game isn't the time for that kind of song imo. You can't get rid of it because that would be like saying we need to change our colors from blue to green or something.

I don't think OP wanted to get rid of it tho
I agree. Placement may be key, but getting rid of ot all together would be kind of like stopping the national anthem at games.

You're completely clueless or senile. Been a season ticket holder for 20 years. It has been booed numerous times with Tenn and Ole Miss fans being some of the most vocal visiting fans to do so. It's a slow, boring *** song that does nothing to fire up the team or fans. It belongs at the end of the game.
Turn up your hearing aids and wake up old man.

Wow, you are now taking the side of UT and Ole Miss fans? Brilliant alliance. I have not heard opposing fans boo and was a ticket holder for many years recently and long past, but if those are your examples and you think it was because the song was slow and boring, you are not smart. Maybe you should read drafts of your posts to your mommy before saying stupid things. “UT fans booed so the song must be bad as a game day experience!!” LOL. Next you will say we should all start bringing mustard bottles to games to get us fired up. 🤦‍♂️

I just watched. You are truly not smart and should post on Pokémon message boards and leave this discussion to the football fans.

This is a song about an enslaved Black man wishing not for freedom but for the simplicity of life on a small Kentucky plantation. The line “Weep no more, my lady”is directed not to Uncle Tom’s Black wife, who would not have been considered a lady in the dominant culture of the time, but to the White wife of the enslaver who sold him, as if you say, “It’s OK that you miss slavery; I miss it, too.”

False. But I predict low IQ posters will take your fiction and embrace it.

So you're saying now you can see but still not hear.
The chants and jeers of opposing fans over MOKH is embarrassing.
Use closed caption dude.

Again, you are clueless or senile. A slow, boring pre game song is chum in the water for opposing fans to interrupt.
You really think that fires up the players or home crowd?? It's closer to the musical equivalent of having sand kicked in your face.
I'm all for playing it at the end of the game like we do with the basketball program. Stein will fix this BS.

I point out that you premise your argument upon UT and Ole Miss fans’ attempts to interfere with the singing of our state song and you think I am senile? ROFL. You got caught attempting to support your dimwitted opinion by pointing to ugly opposing fans. That was idiotic and you got caught. Your best response to being nabbed is to claim I am clueless and senile. Dude, you just got manhandled by an old man. Take a break and reevaluate.

The idea that all music at the beginning of a football game has to be some stereotypical pump song is just dumb. The song unites most thinking Kentuckians and players to each other that excludes the opposing team and fans. THAT is why they don’t like it.

Why you don’t like it is another issue, I hope. The “pump song” for emotional non-football minds comes afterwards.

Before the game. It sucks the life out of the crowd. Play it after the football game.

Please don't say we should because it's tradition. Our tradition is a losing one. Let's change it.
I'm good with after the game like basketball and have some high intense music pre game to get the crowd in a mood.
