I have two Claude subs, a Perplexity sub, and an Higgsfield sub. Occasionally will pay for a ChatGPT sub.

On my own: Anthropic (Claude code using Fable/Sonnet et al) and Gemini both for separate reasons.

Through a startup I cofounded we primarily use Anthropic for dev purposes. We use openrouter to connect clients to their LLM subscription.

How do you like openrouter? I know a lot of enterprises that are building their own routers.

Also curious what you use Gemini for. I’ve never had a sub but the narrative around it is that it’s the worst product out there.

I think Gemini is better than perplexity for hybrid search (AI powered search getting a specific answer to a hard question)…just my .02, could be wrong. The other thing is the models change so often that my answer next month on what I use might be different.

Openrouter works as advertised. We will probably roll our own at some point, but with a small dev team we are hyper focused on things that will differentiate us…routing to whichever LLM is not that thing. On a side note their recent valuation seems stupidly high to me - but perhaps it’s because they can prove customer lock-in.

I’m trying to figure out how difficult it is to build a router. Agree that the valuation is stupid. Not sure why stripe would buy that other than some personal dealing by the collison bros.

Stripe‘s push beyond payments towards startup enablement is smart. We incorporated our most recent startup using Stripe Atlas. I have other startups in the past, but this was my first try using Stripe for something beyond payments. They have good tools for fundraising, data room, legal docs, etc. I think they are trying to make it dead simple for people to start small companies on stripe which naturally means you will use them for payment processing (I am an active customer of theirs for that).

The only rationale I can see (and it flimsy) is that openrouter somehow will help them create even more lock in for their customer base.
