Which candidate do you support?
What sets your candidate apart?
What issue are you most focused on?
Does Trump's endorsement matter?
If your candidate doesn't win, who do you predict the winner will be?

I guess I’ll vote for Mark Lynch.

Seems like turnout will be low, so your vote is worth more than usual if you do actually vote.

I predict Darlene will win.

No one is paying attention, I barely knew today was the vote. Hardly a chatter about it here on the political board.

Interesting.

Ugh is right. Either way we lost a lot with Lindsey’s passing. A ton of seniority gone. I struggled with who to vote for today, but ended up with giving Sanford a 2nd chance. I know a bunch of good people that fell into the same trap, but they obviously weren’t governors.

Now, I think Graham is definitely the choice. I’m an R but the freedom caucus/Norman is a hell no. I never support radicals.

Graham will walk the Trump line which isn’t all bad. Whoever wins the runoff will be in office for 4 years after he’s out of office.

There isn’t a single decent candidate that would excite voters unfortunately.
I thought the excitement would be preventing nepotism and a hand picked candidate.

I almost missed last weeks primary vote because it doesn’t seem like anyone is talking about it

That’s not an accident. She will just do what she’s told by maga and Israel.

I would say South Carolina deserves better but given how little it invests in public education, this is exactly what it deserves.

Did you see Mississippi kicking *** in education?

The returns on investment in public education are atrocious. Why not just put that money in a memecoin and hope it doesn’t go to zero. 80-90% of public school graduates from Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco public schools are illiterate or can’t do basic math. I gave a story about a 16 year old public school kid from Vegas that can’t read that I know personally.

I would be very interested in reading this analysis that shows public education has a terrible ROI. That is quite a contrarian view.

Thoughts? This is per student. No fluff. You telling me more money is getting better results??

Perhaps a better way of stating this is, money is irrelevant if the curriculum is terrible. Those states are spending multiples of MS and getting awful results.

Mississippi is also paying teachers considerably less. The 2024–25 average teacher salary was $54,975 in Mississippi, compared with $71,023 in Michigan, $103,552 in California, and $98,655 in New York.

So if the question is “Did Mississippi’s education turnaround happen because they simply dumped vastly more money into schools?”, the answer is pretty clearly no.

There was additional targeted spending, particularly on literacy coaches and teacher training. But Mississippi’s results are interesting precisely because the state is getting substantially more academic improvement without spending anywhere near what NY, CA, or IL spend per student.

For as active as you are in politics, I’m surprised you didn’t vote. You are smart enough to know that graham is an embarrassment to the state.

Other than this board, I'm not really that active. I think most politicians and both parties suck. Hard to get motivated when that's the case.

What we’ve learned is a backward, southern, blood red state can teach circles around nearly every big city public school at about 1/2 the cost. Pretty incredible what people can accomplish. The students attending public schools in the poorest state in America outperforms students from NYC, SF, Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, by a lot. Don’t listen to these nuts when they tell you they need more tax money, they need to figure out how to use what they get first.
