One of the main reasons I'm not optimistic at all about this team or KT. They looked like ****.Yeah. The bowl game doesn’t get enough discussion here. I know it ultimately doesn’t matter, but it looked like we hadn’t prepared at all for that game.
Or maybe he was told not to pull the trigger on downfield plays unless they were wide open because of his arm strength.I don't even know that it was his inability to push the ball down the field so much as his unwillingness too. He made some deep throws, especially in his last couple of years. He just seemed unwilling to pull the trigger unless it was just wide open. He seemed too comfortable in taking the easy throw and padding that completion percentage as opposed to taking a chance at a big play and maybe making a mistake.
Ironically, Shapen probably would have been a monster in that system, because he would have thrown the go route 40 times a game. He probably would have had those games you got accustomed to seeing from Leach QBs. 600+ yards, 8 TDs, and 4 INTs. Rogers was happy going for 250 with a 80% completion rate, 1 TD, and no INTs.
Since Dan left we've had
• Square pegged Fitz
•Bad team discipline
• A leach offense that took qbs multiple years to learn to run.
• Terrible OC hire
•Square pegged Will
• Terrible DC hire.
This seems like the first year with good coordinators and the right players for the system we have had . Even if we don't win 8 or 9 like some fans expect, we are finally pointed in the right direction .
After Roger's freshman year I was pretty encouraged because I just knew (or thought I knew) that his arm strength would improve as he matured but it was the same when he left as it was when he started .Or maybe he was told not to pull the trigger on downfield plays unless they were wide open because of his arm strength.
I felt like that was also mainly O-line play. I think KT was sacked 5 or 6 times and no telling how many times he was knocked down. KT will add another dynamic that Shapen couldn't and keep defenses honest; however, you gotta have some protection, even with a QB as talented as KT.One of the main reasons I'm not optimistic at all about this team or KT. YES. This is probably the biggest reason I have little faith that the season will be a turnaround. The bowl game performance was an embarrassment.Don't we still have bad team discipline? Did we all decide to give the coaching staff a free pass on sleepwalking through a very winnable bowl game and looking hung over?
It’s heartbreaking how little I’ve come to care about Mississippi State Football. It was a huge part of my family’s autumns. I WISH I could still get excited about it.Since Dan left we've had

obligatory: username checks outAnd inability to maneuver the pocket, much less take off. Never learned the "clock" of when to get rid of it or when the blitz was obviously coming.
I interpreted his “square peg” of Will Rogers to refer to the Arnett yearLeach offense is easy. That was the whole point of it. We just were limited with Rogers arm strength.
Or maybe he was told not to pull the trigger on downfield plays unless they were wide open because of his arm strength
Imma realist. I will offer no **** before its time.PRESHITTERS ASSEMBLE!!!!!1!!
Someone said something hopeful - GET HIM!
That is Leach's offense. It's designed that way.
He designed it to beat a rush he didn't have the OL to stop. It was pretty darned effective too.Leach designed his offense to not block? That's interesting.
It sucked against defenses with a pulse. He designed it to beat a rush he didn't have the OL to stop. It was pretty darned effective too.
His last season State averaged over 31 points a game and kept the defense fairly fresh because they didn't have many 3 and outs.
It was not designed to hold blocks for very long at all. That was the whole purpose of it. He almost never had linemen that were capable of holding blocks, so that's what he and Mumme set out to do from the start, get the ball out in space in a hurry to try to negate that handicap. It worked against bad defenses, and occasionally mediocre ones. Ones that could cover wide outs, not so much.Leach designed his offense to not block? That's interesting.
not as bad as the air raidSo did Mullen's
No one tries not to block. The point is to mitigate weaknesses that smaller, less talented teams face against bigger, more talented teams. If choosing, every coach wants to block longer, run faster, tackle better, etc. IE BETTER PLAYERS. I capitalized it again, because apparently you're fairly slow. He's not intentionally trying to find players that suck, you dipshlt. It was not designed to hold blocks for very long at all. That was the whole purpose of it. Your first paragraph there was exactly what I said. Reading comprehension isn’t your strong point. You do like to argue with yourself though, have at it.No one tries not to block. Your talent always limits you. But the facts are, Leach's teams played above their talent level. Had he kept winning and thus, recruiting levels also increased, which tends to happen, he would have gotten to the level needed to pick off the good defenses. Same as Mullen. Leach was going to have one of those 10-2 years in the next few, had he lived. No matter how much you didn't like it.
That's how it works when you are at Mississippi State. You don't just go and get better players immediately, like Lenny seems to think we can do.
Don't we still have bad team discipline? Did we all decide to give the coaching staff a free pass on sleepwalking through a very winnable bowl game and looking hung over?
When the Libby apologists here talk about the improvement from 2-10 to 5-7, I have consistently corrected them and let them know we went 5-8 last year. We only lost two fewer games and was blown out by all of our opponents with a pulse after the UT-A bed$hiting.Yeah. The bowl game doesn’t get enough discussion here. I know it ultimately doesn’t matter, but it looked like we hadn’t prepared at all for that game.

Wasn’t there some rumor that players, including K1, got drunk the night before the game and missed curfew?Regarding the bowl game, the fact we were getting cramps in 50 degree weather was one of the most ridiculous things.
I really don't want to accuse our star QB of bad behavior and breaking the law, but all the cramping in the cold was ... unusual. But whatever happened, it's ultimately on Lebby.Wasn’t there some rumor that players, including K1, got drunk the night before the game and missed curfew?
You said exactly the same thing I did. That’s not what you said, mask boy. You were implying negativity and you know it
Fine line between a coach being responsible and a player having some personal accountability. I’ll assume the staff set boundaries and it was up to the players to adhere to the rules. Not sure how you stop that as a coach or staff, bench those involved? Dismiss them? Suspend them the following year?I really don't want to accuse our star QB of bad behavior and breaking the law, but all the cramping in the cold was ... unusual. You're wasting your key strokesYou said exactly the same thing I did.![]()

How do you not know we’re all stuck in a simulation… counting down till someone recognizes what unedited funny *** show that debuted in 1997 still going today I’m watching on paramount +Is this AI?
Not true at all. Sure, they only scored 6 vs Bama but dang, when is that new? They scored 42 on 17th ranked Texas A&M, 39 on Auburn, 19 on #1 GA and beat OM in Oxford 24-22. All those defenses had a pulse. They only had 3 games all year scoring under 20 and won one of those and losing other two to GA & Bama. You expect better than that with our fanbase and roster spending you are not being realistic at all.It sucked against defenses with a pulse.
One of many reasons I have zero interest in this season. Literally none. Football season anticipation has now morphed into anticipation for cooler temps and less crowded golf coursesYeah. The bowl game doesn’t get enough discussion here. I know it ultimately doesn’t matter, but it looked like we hadn’t prepared at all for that game.
It really doesn't matter. Outside the playoff games, all of these bowl games have turned into total exhibitions as a glorified practice for those sticking around for the next season while other players are either sitting out or hitting the portal. Of all 13 games last year, it absolutely should have the least emphasis other than it almost cost us our starting QB for this season.Yeah. The bowl game doesn’t get enough discussion here. 100% agree on the bowl game itself, as far as watching interest and future placement, and all that. It does not matter at all. But internally to MSU, you can't argue that there should have been a better effort there. Especially with the way the coaches and media played it up like it was a big deal.It really doesn't matter.
