I’m really digging the new Sublime album. For those who don’t know, original lead singer Bradley Nowell OD’d a few months before their self titled 1996 album that ended up being huge. He left behind an 11 month old son, Jakob. Jakob fronts the band now and sounds almost dead on like his father. I am amazed by how good the album is as someone who was into them in high school.

I meant to post this yesterday as it was Little Round Top Day, but I forgot. Better late than not at all.

Happy 90th birthday to legendary Bluesman, Buddy Guy. Born on this date in 1936 in Lettsworth Louisiana. He moved to Chicago in 1957 and soon found himself recording at Chicago’s famous Blues label, Chess Records. He recorded with Blues legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf and Little Walter. He was also playing Blues clubs all around Chicago where him and other Bluesmen would have “head cutting” competitions. They’d play to see who got the best reaction from the audience. He went up against greats like Otis Rush, Magic Sam and Freddy King.

Some of world’s most famous guitar players idolized Buddy Guy and his style of play. Specifically guys like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Buddy Guy was inducted into the Rock HOF in 2005.

His first hit recording from 1958

Rolling Stone magazine ranked this #78 on their top 100 list of greatest guitar songs of all time.

During the 70s and 80s Blues fell out of fashion. But in the 90s it made a bit of a resurgence. And Buddy released a great album in 1991, “Damn Right I Got The Blues”. Here’s the title track.

He then tried his hand at grunge blues. Pretty successfully, if’n you ask me…

I’ve seen him live on 3 separate occasions and each time he blew my mind with his mastery of the instrument and his showmanship. If there’s one living person I’d most like to meet and to share a beer and listen to their stories, it’s Mr Buddy Guy.

Digging through my old CDs. This guy was amazing, gone too soon, a long time ago. Great cover of When the Levee Breaks.

Edited to add the video about his 1934 National steel guitar; that Lightning Hopkins played on.

Been jamming with this Power Duo band out of Canada, eh! Currently based in Austin TX.

The first song that grabbed my attention. Especially the tempo change at about the 2:30 mark. Needs max volume.

Gotta love a tune named after a strain of Maryjuwanna. Is it 4:20 yet?

Perhaps my favorite tune of theirs...

It's about half past 420 here 😎 Malawi Panama cross . So Heavy reminds me of Screaming Trees. I like it.

ETA - I listened to their debut album. I really like their sound. Thanks for sharing this.

I saw these guys about a month ago in Cincinnati. The music video is a nod to Paul Simon's "You can call me Al".

I never saw Hendrix or SRV play it live, but have been lucky enough to see Monte Montgomery do it on his acoustic ... GREAT stuff !! SONICS !!

I also was lucky enough to see The Kang play like only he can ... using his Rickenbacker through a Vox amp ... so very impressive !! SONICS !!
