Mine are all ripped, sitting in boxes in a storage closet. When I say ripped, they're ripped to FLAC, mp3 @ 320 mbps, and ripped to CD-R.
I have 3 Sony Mega Changers from the 1990's and 2000's. They hold collectively 800 CD's. The two 200 CD changers are full, the 400 CD changer is about 3/4 full - all with the ripped CD-R's.
I listened to all 3 all last weekend - shuffled between them. I learned on Youtube how to change the belts, service them (mainly stripping out the old grease and installing new), etc. They work perfect.
CD's and CD players are making a comeback - I believe CD's are now outselling LP's again for the first time in a long time. So, the old high quality units are getting repaired and put back into service and even some mid range and low end players are getting refurbished too. Most the times, all they need are a belt or two.
I also have a very high end single disc DVD/CD/SACD player that is my prime CD/SACD player/transport, and I also have a 400 disc DVD/CD/SACD changer that's nearly full with all my old DVD's.
They all work, so I use them. All were paid for used...for pennies to nearly dimes on the original dollar over a decade ago, and it sure's hell beats having a handful of streaming subscriptions. My single disc player sold for nearly $2000 brand new back in the early 2000's. I got it for $10 - and it works perfect. I didn't pay more than $25 for any of the changers because they all needed belts to work.
Unfortunately, those kind of steals are getting more difficult to find given the CD resurgence.
