Goes almost without saying, but we haven't had an offensive mind like his at NU since Walk. Really hope it works out here with him.

Are we worried that Chiles is not the clearcut starter yet or is that just coachspeak?

Walker was amazing but he needed a good OC to implement his vision.

Kelly is probably the best OC NU has ever had.

Dunbar was pretty amazing to learn from though. We used to call him “Yoda”, for obvious reasons ✌️

I am going to pump the brakes on Kelly a bit until we see a year or two of results. He has the legacy of a great coach, but let's see how he attacks this Northwestern job. As a Cincinnati Reds fan, we were all ecstatic when likely Hall of Fame manager Terry Francona came out of retirement to come manage the Reds. Less than two years later, it is obvious he has just been phoning it in and fans are counting the seconds until he is gone. I'm not saying Kelly will follow the same path, but let's not anoint him the greatest ever at NU until we see how he functions within this environment.

Former Indians fan here, who (inexplicably) just stopped following baseball around COVID time.

Really sorry to hear Francona isn't working out. I enjoyed watching his teams.

Re Kelly, I feel he has the tools (players/staff) to succeed here, but we have a couple of irreplaceable players ((Wilde, Carsello, probably Chiles). Need to stay healthy. We'll score points if so

If Dunbar had not quit to go to California in 2006 almost certainly he (with prior HC experience) would have replaced Randy Walker after his sudden passing. It's been 20 years and I am way past overthinking it but, jeez, what could have been.
