Lololol... The "integrity, and class " of their program historically? Lololol.. I guess he never heard of JoePa/Sandusky, or some of the trash crap that Franklin pulled while the head coach...
Like our politicians today; ignore the reality and paint your own picture of what you’re selling. Matt’s a good guy but his history is tainted to fit his desired narrative. Shocker.

Listening to that...I threw up in my mouth a little. Penn State Football has always been of questionable character...and trust.
Not to me. I had the highest respect for Joe Paterno and his program, squeaky clean, doing things the right way, etc.

Then one Saturday I'm watching football in a sports bar, Mother Hubbard's, and the games were interrupted with shocking breaking news. We were all staring at the screen dumbfounded. The pretty bartendress probably said it best for all of us, "Holy sh--."

I got some more "commentary"... Honestly out of all things corrupt College Football programs have done... it pales in comparison to what went on in "Happy Valley" for 3 decades.... They shouldn't even have a University anymore let alone a Football program. They had one of the most shocking deranged unbelievable stories in the history of humanity. They are sick in the head. If this happened at Iowa or any University I supported... They would no longer exist in my mind.

It was so bad they removed Paterno's statue. Heck the cover-up went all the way to the Presidents office, including the AD. We are PedState! Happy Valley, BS.

Iowa is really young this Year and most of His ISU Players will be gone by the time He sees Iowa and Iowa will have a ton more experience and not be replacing as many starters as this Year when He gets His wish , He might not like the result of the meeting

I liked Campbell while at Iowa State. I thought he did a good job there and seemed like a decent rising young coach. I thought Penn State seemed an odd choice at the time given their history. His embrace of that history makes me think quite a bit less of him.

I think Campbell might be regretting not waiting a little longer... He would probably have the Michigan job and he seems like a better fit there IMO.

It's quite a reach to say Campbell is embracing something bad that happened 30 years ago by taking the job today. Nobody involved with the Sandusky scandal has been around for years.

Fair comment. I don't mean he embraces the behavior of that period. But the Penn State tradition includes that ugly period. I think he could probably express what he wants to build on a little better.

I also question how well he fits Penn State. He may do fine there but I could also see this not working out.

I don't know. What makes a "fit"?

He's from Massillon, OH so he grew in the storied Ohio/Pennsylvania football region and that's where all his playing and coaching was done prior to clown town. He doesn't run an unusual offensive scheme (like Rich Rod tried at Michigan) and won't throw away any football identity PSU had (like Fickell did with Wisconsin).

I think Penn St is going to get a little Nebraska-like wake-up call. Franklin won 13,10 and 11 games in three of his last four seasons. His crime was not winning "the big games". I can't see Campbell doing better than that. But he will get hopes up and be overhyped coming out of this season. They have a very favorable schedule.

He does not have the rock star body of work or winning % that blue blood fanbases scream for typically in Coaches , If He does not win 10 games a Year or has some soft losses They will fire Him faster than a 16 Year old seeing His first penthouse mag

Not embracing. but he didn't need to bring up the whole "integrity and class" thing either so he opened himself up for that. More good pub for PSU today as well. 2 Penn State fraternities, (and one of the frat boys Dads), being indicted for cocaine distribution and trafficking.

They better make the playoff this year with the cake walk schedule they have. We'll see after that.

The cocaine in State College must be superior to the coke in Ames.

I never liked Franklin who seemed like an arrogant prick. But he struck me as a good coach and I don't see Campbell doing any better either. Not sure Matt made the best career move.

His silly comments about integrity snd class make him sound eager to please in a culture that only cares about winning. Your comment about Penn State getting a wake up call seems spot on.

It's crazy to me the expectations being heaped on him in year 1. Cowherd today (I think?) said PSU was his darkhorse to win the CFP, and I know there are others who love PSU because of their "weak schedule" but that's all relative. Sure compared to other B1G schools PSU's schedule is weaker. But it's still stronger than what he played in the Big 12 last season. I think there's 15 of PSU's 22 starters who were at ISU last year w Campbell. That team, playing against a weaker schedule, went 8-4 including a loss to a horrible, 3-9 Colorado. So the same coach and nearly 3/4s of the same starting roster is now expected to make and possibly win the CFP? Because they're in PSU uniforms? Just weird. This is not good for Campbell.
