Do you give to State Excellence Fund(SEF) or subscribe to State 1878?

I give to The State Excellence Fund.
I am utilizing the free State 1878 membership that everyone that purchases football season tickets was gifted, so I answered NO to that question. I will probably buy some level of State 1878 if they don't continue the free membership for everyone buying football season tickets after April/May of 2027. I am very pleased with the content on State 1878.

I’ve got the free 1878 subscription due to my existing BC donation level. I think I read that this would just be a one time thing this year, but I could be wrong.

It’s a decent website, and whereas we used to get recruiting articles from State sponsored sites a week after a kid committed, they do seem to be much more on top of things. That said, none of this is a big needle mover in terms of making me want to donate to SEF or pay for a subscription. I just refuse to blindly donate to this NIL/Rev sharing cluster17, and a nifty MSU website isn’t going to change that.

Currently I'm contributing to the Excellence Fund and utilizing the free 1878 membership with my football season tickets. Once the free 1878 membership runs out I will transition a portion of my Excellence Fund donation over to the 1878. I think the content over at 1878 is worth the price.

I plan to do the same eventually although I am committed to a 5 year monthly gift to State Excellence Fund that runs thru June 2029. I will probably get a low level State 1878 membership if necessary in 2027 and then split the $ between SEF & 1878 after June 2029 assuming they have not changed the whole damned program again by 2029 based on some combination of NCAA, Legal, and/or Congressional Action.

I'm not even sure of the difference between 1878 and the SEF. Until this thread, I was thinking 1878 was a replacement to SEF which was a replacement to the Bulldog Initiative.

I used to give to Bulldog Initiative, but they quit drawing it out of my account when SEF came along and I never bothered to setup a new draft for SEF. The way all this is going, it'll probably change again next year to something different. I'm just gonna wait it out until all the constant changes subside.

Neither for me. Like others, I have the free subscription from season tickets. I have only logged in once. It sounds like I might need to check it out. Just haven't looked. I pay for 247 and rarely go there as well. I totally understand the reasoning to donate to SEF, but I can't stomach giving. College football is quickly slipping away as a priority for me. I am hanging on by a thread to continue buying season tickets.

Then this should make it clear as pig stye mud. From the SEF website:

"As Mississippi State adapts to the new era of college athletics, all contributions to the State Excellence Fund will be dedicated to enhancing student-athlete resources and providing athletic benefits as we work to bring elite student-athletes to Starkville to compete in the toughest conference in America"

What exactly does the orange part mean, i.e., what is "enhancing student-athlete resources" and mainly "PROVIDING ATHLETIC BENEFITS" mean?

SEF - money for the revenue share for all sports which is around $22 million

State 1878 - money on top of the revenue share. It's the cherry on top.

It's all ****** up but I don't adjust what I give. I've said this a number of times - I just adjust the % of what I want to give in total.

Judging by our bowl game performance last season against Wake, I'll have to say that this is likely a bad assumption

Same here, why didn’t the SEF just keep drawing from my account every month? Guess I need to see that up again? I have a pledge due next year but I don’t know why they stopped the monthly withdrawals

Just noticed that now that you said it. Thats really a pain. If you auto renew the pledge just auto renew the draft. Can you even set up a draft online? I didn’t see an option from mobile view

And if the teams spending $20+ on football are also spending $20 or so on basketball, then they have maxed out their cap under the pending Protect College Sports Act.

They would have wiggle room with money coming from unassociated entities who pinky swear they are licensing NIL all on their own, with no money or guidance from the school.

These numbers are alarming. I suspect if you polled an OM board it would almost be the opposite percentages. I have some OM co workers that are marginally involved. Don’t read the boards. Barely follow in twitter. Tune in to watch the games on Saturdays. His brother called him 4 years ago and strong armed him into giving to their NIL each month. $50 he says. Said he knew his brother probably did that to 40-50 people. Otherwise he’d never have set it up.

I give to both SEF and 1878. And BC for seating. I talked with my pastor about it and he said as long as Selmon, Lebby, and Charlie are Christian, then it can count as a tithe. So I just reallocated there. My home church has folded, but at least we’re going bowling.**

I feel confident it will. Your don’t invest what we did in on/off field assistants and what we spent on retention and acquisition without it paying off.

Where did I say anything about what State spent on its roster?

My only point was that a lot of schools are already spending more than would be allowed under the pending legislation.
