In this thread we will be taking a look at the nonconference games between schools with a two or more class difference to see if there is a trend. If I miss some matchups let me know. The parentheses state the schools' stature in relation to their class.

I am also going to include some Fox Valley since its a closed conference.

Montini (8A roster as multiplied 4A champ) vs Hoopeston (1A struggling program)
Montini (4A champ) vs Sandburg (8A qualifier)
Benet (7A enrollment w/ multiplier non-qualifier) vs Le-Win (1A champ/powerhouse)
Andrew (7A qualifier) vs Oak Forest (5A up and coming program)
Andrew (7A) vs St Joseph-Ogden (3A semifinalist)
Batavia (6A enrollment/7A request up powerhouse) vs Maine South (8A powerhouse)
Batavia (6A/7A) vs Rochester (4A powerhouse)
LWE (8A powerhouse) vs Kankakee (good 5A program)
Bolingbrook (voted one of most overrated programs 8A) vs Simeon (6A multiplied enrollment/quarterfinalist)
Marist (8A multiplied in CCL Blue) vs Simeon (6A)
Rochester (4A) vs Moline (7A qualifier)
Aurora Christian (2A multiplied) vs Elgin (8A qualifier)
Oswego (8A runners up) vs Geneva (6A nonqualifier)
Cary-Grove (5A powerhouse) vs Huntley (8A qualifier)
Prairie Ridge (5A powerhouse) vs Huntley (8A)
Peotone (3A) vs Eisenhower Blue Island (6A)
SHG (4A/5A multiplied powerhouse) vs LWC (7A qualifier)
Kaneland (5A power) vs Dekalb (7A nonqualifier)
Kaneland (5A) vs Metea Valley (8A nonqualifier)
Naz (6A multiplied powerhouse) vs York (8A qualifier)
IC (3A multiplied powerhouse) vs Naz (6A)
Romeoville (6A struggling) vs Stagg (8A historically down)
Plainfield C (6A recently down) vs Aurora East (8A historically down)

If I am missing games let me know. I am sure there are some smaller class games ie 1A vs 3A etc. Ill also need how each team relates to their class.

It is the strangest thing when a team like Montini demand respect and boastfully claim that they are the number 1 team in the state… and they have De La Salle scheduled for week 7

the Meteors couldn’t field a varsity team last year…

there should be an Asterix next to their winning streak

What is the size of the check Montini cut for Hoopeston to come up for that slaughter? My friend once got 3k and a coach bus to take his team to get clocked in central Illinois and that was before covid.

From what I have heard, somewhere in that same neighborhood.

I remember a few years back 1A Leo beat 8A Rich Township
Where does Leo's enrollment put them this year? I know theres only a few hundred boys there. I would imagine they also qualify for a waiver? This is a team that will greatly benefit from the new format and could potentially make some noise in one of the lower classes if they can scratch out three plus wins with their CCL schedule..

They've been 1A but they went 3A in basketball last season (I think) and I'll guess they are 2A in Football this year with the multiplier

Curious to hear how many reps the Broncos 1's get week one 🤔 While I admire their confidence .... weeks 2, 3, 4 ( Sandburg, Marist, Naz ) are all on the road.

I remember St Laurence let them play home games there but Leo did a few things they shouldn’t & that stopped

I don't know which team will take more crap for staying in 4A. The 2021 JCA team or the 2026 Montini team. I'd give the edge the 21 JCA team as that team went undefeated and probably could have won 8A that year over Lockport or 7A over Wheaton North.....I don't know if this Montini team will go undefeated and I don't think they would have a chance in 7A or 8A this year.

Week 1 Peotone (402) @ Blue Island Eisenhower (1659)

A small 3A vs 6A

Don't know much about Eisenhower, they don't appear to be world beaters and last year they weren't that strong. A few years ago I would probably say Peotone could hang but last year was really rough for them.

All.... 4A/5A (likely 5A this year) SHG vs Lincoln Way-Central (7A qualifier - second round)

Knights will be the home team with the game at Tucci Staium in Bloomington. A two year deal for the schools so in 2027 the Cyclones will host at Tucci. And yes even though this is a college stadium seating on the away side is minuscule. Sigh.... Ratsy

2021 was the year after the Covid season and nobody understood who was going to be in what class.

But, yeah, that JCA team was too good for 4A or even 5A.

Although there are at least 32 teams that will make the same claim, JCA lost a Championship in the Covid year (2020).

Was the 2021 JCA team better? Almost certainly. Did they really take any meaningful crap for not petitioning up? No, not at all. The 2019 Hilltoppers lost to Mascoutah in the 5A quarterfinals and the 2020 Hilltoppers were never given a chance to compete in a postseason. So they had to make a decision based on a disappointing loss when the rising seniors were sophomores and 6 weeks of game tape in a complete waste of a spring 2021 junior season.

Montini has two years worth of postseason success to know what they have coming back this year. They have a top flight QB recruit with experience and a few key transfers.

Everyone thought JCA would likely be a decent favorite whether they were 5A or 4A in 2021. Their success early in the season made it seem more likely, but it wasn't a slam dunk coming in. 2026 Montini is a slam dunk favorite if they are 4A to the point where it would be absolutely shocking if they don't win 4A and we all know that before the season starts.

Meaningful crap? No. A lot of push back crap from some posters on this board who were either jealous, CCL haters, or just angry in general? Absolutely they took some shots. Again not meaningful, just nameless faceless keyboarders, but there was BS called, and it continued with the 2A Baseball Championships.

I did defend and do understand why they elected to stay in 4A, they needed a championship to help get butts in the seats with enrollment. They are recruiting against the Lincoln Ways, Morris. Providence, Plainfield, and others....winning State Titles helps keep them going. Some haters who think they know how private schools run and think we are swimming in cash don't know the struggle it is to keep a private school running in this day and age but athletic success helps. If it wasn't a slam dunk for JCA in 2021 they at least knew it was going to be an easy layup to win 4A or 5A in 2021. I honestly think they could have won 8A or contended for it.

In the paper it says they've got that "kill mentality" theyre going 38-0, and winning a 3rd consecutive championship.

Is it too late for coach to request up and test that mettle? The kids have confidence, I just wish coach had confidence in them.

I like the "humble" Izzy more like he is 99% of the time.

Also the coach has a 500 student school and therefore does not have the depth of a Bolingbrook. Therefore he needs to manage the schedule and games just like ICCP did a few years back when they played Loyola.

Depth and lack of it is a big part of HS football too. (I know 7a and 8a schools will never understand this).

The only Izzy quote that bothered me was when he called Hoopeston "Hoopsville or whatever their name is" (paraphrasing) and I dont think he did it on purpose I think he just really didnt know who they were. Thats not necessarily his fault, but it is dismissive. The admin should have given him an opponent that can provide a challenge especially since hes as talkative as he is. As it stands we have to wait for Naz.

Not sure about where you are getting your information?

On3.com has Sandburg over Montini in week 2 and Marist over Montini in week 3.

Thad Matta, the former basketball head coach at Ohio State who also has the most wins at that school and now the head at Butler was born and raised in Hoopeston and played basketball for the Corn Jerkers. "Hoopsville" might just be a compliment to that school because of him. I've always thought of Hoopeston and Matta as being expected in the same sentence.

2a (multiplied) Aurora Christian plays 8A playoff qualifier Elgin HS in week 2.

2576 vs 208
Elgin HS is a mirage, they play in UEC conference (arguably on of the weakest conf in Chicago area). Last season to make playoffs Elgin HS beat teams ranked 371, 382, 466, 424, 400. Teams ranking they lost to by combined score of 284-50:
128, 154, 251,109, 15

I got AC in this one.
