Bowling really seemed like he didn't give maximum effort.

Sometimes that's a strategy with repechage to not wear out an obviously superior opponent so they can pull you back in.
That was a big problem with Zain's early senior freestyle career -- he'd lose by 1 pt but leave the opponent useless for the next round.

Luckily Zain figured out how to win those matches.

Squire has won his repechage match. It looks like conditioning played a role.
That was a strange match. I can't decide if UKR struggled right off the scale or decided to try to end it as quick as possible since it's a long quick repechage day.

2nd

Lots of pummeling and pushing but not a lot of action. More blood time and head wrapping. HUN goes for a front headlock and pulls half the head wrap off. Rewrapping as HUN goes par terre. 1-1 HUN. Bowling gets the lift and loses it on the turn and gets reversed 2-1 HUN and gets the step out that's being challenged. Tuttle vs Pappas Greece 97 kg qual

TRex sumo as Tuttle slips on headlock. Tuttle goes to par terre first. nothing 1-0 Pappas at the break

2nd

Pappas goes into par terre. Tuttle gets nothing. Tuttle looks gassed as he slips a headlock then gives up the step out. Slips on an arm spin with 45 left. Loses 2-1 in the kind of Greco match most hate. Tuttle wouldn't have scored if he had an hour on their feet.

Squier vs Kochalidze Georgia 87 Kg repechage

Geo holding center with elbows really tucked. This looks to be a "good' match. They both stood there until Squier goes into par terre first. GEO get the lift and goes for the throw but Squier defends it to a step out only. 2-0 Kochalidze. The shorter, stronger Georgian is winning the sumo as he gets another step out to lead 3-0 at the break.

Georgia so dominant in sumo that he gets par terre again up 4-0. Gives up on the lift. Squier spins behind on the edge but only gets the step out 4-1. Georgia pushing, Squier spinning and circling. Squier shoots for a body lock and gets 4 on the edge with 6 seconds left. Kochalidze challenges. Challenge lost. Total domination by returning champ Kochalidze ends up with a huge Squier win 6-4

Squier is into the bronze medal match

Nutter US vs Kalmagamebetov KAZ 67kg 1/8

Pretty even in the sumo, maybe a slight edge to KAZ. Nutter goes into par terre first. 1-0 KAZ. No turns, KAZ was locked to his elbow but Nutter crawled well. Not much "action" but a lot of "Greco" as the period end 1-0 KAZ

2nd

KAZ winning sumo much more this period but Nutter keeps spinning to center. KAZ goes into par terre. Nutter had trouble with the crawl and his lock kept dropping low. 1-1 KAZ with 145 left. KAZ stopped pushing forward so he doesn't get toward the edge. KAZ wins 1-1 in a Greco lovers match that everyone else in the world hates.

I'm really impressed with the replay official's speed. UZB threw the last second brick in desperation and it was decided in 10-15 seconds that there was no step out and we got to see everything the official was seeing so much better than U17s that it needs repeating.

I'll probably get blasted for this but GR officiating has seemed to be much better with fewer challenges won because there are fewer female officials here. I have no problem with female officials in freestyle because they can compete and have experience in that discipline but since there's no women's Greco-Roman...

Also if they are going to run two mats for the bronze matches, why not A and C instead of using B where the whistles are further apart and there's no chance on them both being on the same edge at the same time.

Russia had a 7-0 lead and a trap arm against UZB, UZB reversed and 2 turns and a 4pter to take a 9-7 lead and then did just enough in the 2nd period to stay out of par terre to win.

They've switch people who handle the challenge controls. Bald official is much much slower as were back to 5 minute or more challenges. Female official lost track of the score and medical was on the mat before she even blew the match dead. Turning into a **** show.

I don't think those not watching can understand the difference in challenge reviews from yesterday to today. It's like grandpa having control of the TV at Thanksgiving and he speaks a different language than the buttons and the game is only on a streaming service.

Manuel Saldate vs Magomed Varaev "France" 60 kg qual

Saldate tries arm drag. Varaev holding center. Saldate trying to force an over hook. Saldate had both paddles up for par terre but forces a step out first. Up 1-0. France still controlling center. Saldate up 1-0 at the break with no par terre that period

2nd
Saldate working standing front headlock. France now working underhook. Saldate finally goes down in par terre. Varaev with the lift turn for the 5-1 lead. Varaev arm spin for a Saldate step out 5-2 Saldate with the disallowed throw. Multiple white paddles and disagreement but France into par terre. nothing 5-3 Saldate with 2 offered but it's 1 trailing 5-4 and loses 5-4. but challenges. Challenge lost final 6-4 Varaev.

They have seemed to bring out the C or D team of officials today as it's been really crappy especially compared to yesterday. This is flat out embarrassing as they can't find what was being challenged.
