If we can’t stop the run, we’ll lose at least 4 games. That is my only concern at this point entering the season. Going back to the portal season, I was disappointed that DT wasn’t a bigger priority.
I disagree. When you are told to stop short of tackling and stop follow through pressure on the QB you won’t look good. The defense was clearly stopping after initial contact on lays. Heck would have been sacked or pressured on his first TD. The defender stopped pursuit several steps short of hitting him.
As Duddy mentioned earlier not sure if we have the dudes up front to stop the run, which is crucial in our conference
This isn't BF's offense. This is an actual, real offense with weapons everywhere. Phil is just the first of many DCs who will lament having to play the Iowa offense this season.
Norm Parker always said the first thing was “you must stop the run”.
If we take a significant decline in that area, it will not bode well for how we play Defense.
Hopefully the new guys continue to improve and are up for the challenge.

I dunno, maybe we play more 4-3 when needed vs. cash given the a) talent at LB and b) help the DL out a bit..back end at SS/FS/CB should be solid along with about 6 decent LB's for 2-3 spots. Maybe the DL will take the rest of fall camp and first 3 games to get their sea legs and experience. You can't just plug and play the experience Hurkett, Graves and Mad Max had.
He doesn’t have an insider. This was a practice /scrimmge. It’s almost impossible to show anything if you are told not to touch the QB and stop tackling after initial contact on the others. It’s clear the defense was told not to follow through for safety reasons while the offense was not.
With that said, how many times have we come out of this event with an..
with respect to the offense and been told that it's only because the defense is always ahead of the offense at this juncture and they already know all of the plays. This was definitely different...
