OT: Mets 2026 Season Thread

The problem is- let's say 2027 happens and he has what would be a great year- let's give him the best number in key stats for his career- so- .311 BA, 29 HR, 102 RBI...And he still can't field. Does that deserve the 3rd highest salary in MLB and is there any way possible any team would be dumb enough to give more? Or maybe slightly less but give him a long term contract.
Bo would be crazy to opt out of either year.
So- as I look a bit more into the Stearns trade deadline moves- I think he actually did pretty well.
But, the reality is that it is like being the Captain of the Titanic who just hit the iceberg and getting credit for having the band play to the drowning passengers.
Out of the prospects- it does look like there could be 1 or 2 above average players and maybe a pitcher or two who can contribute. I do expect a couple of those guys to be traded in the off season though. But overall- if you take the deadline in it's own bubble, he did pretty good. Maybe he is a better seller than a buyer.

As my father would say, "Swallow an elephant, but choke on a gnat." Just another excellent move by Stearns. He panicked when his weak idea fell apart. So much for someone who thinks he's the smartest person in the room.
Stearns is a genius. When Shawn Ross was claimed off waivers I originally thought that meant either Alvy or Torrens would be traded. Instead it looks like after last nights performance Torrens can slide into Weavers set up role. Heck Senga can pitch the 7th inning. Ya gotta bELieve…………this is a joke

This one is a head-scratcher. This is NOT Jack Wenninger, a high level prospect. This is somebody else, a minor league journeyman who was in the Indy leagues last year, and currently sports a 7.71 ERA.
Looks like Stock remains in stock, at least for now.
When position players that you know can really throw such as Torrens come in to pitch and wind up lobbing the ball to the plate. Is it because of fear of injury that they dont make pitches at the velocity that you know they could?

The rebirth of Sean Manea continues. Probably some teams who wished they had traded for him.
Big credit to him for turning his season around.
I don't think anyone wanted to commit to paying him $25M next year.
Short answer is yes. Position players can throw at high effort and velocity, but are not conditioned to throw REPETITIVE pitches at high effort and velocity. You know how relievers are not "stretched out" to be starters? Position players are not even stretched out to be relievers.
Another factor is the mound. Position players are not used to throwing off a mound. That could mess up their release point and mechanics, causing possible injury.
Then there is the practical matter of the job of the position player turned pitcher. His job is to throw strikes, induce swings, and get the ball put in play, because some of those balls put in play will find gloves. Just get the game over with. If you give up runs in the process, who cares. It's easier to throw strikes if you are lobbing the ball.
Och! I guess we're looking at closer by committee.

Feast or famine on this road trip. Although it's a been a good one overall.

1) Mets have only one in the Top 100 (Rojas at #76). I think that will change next year. See Voit, Mitch.
2) Tong is out of the Top 100 and down to Mets #5. Maybe they shouldn't have F'd with his delivery. He had two really good pitches but it wasn't enough. Now I'm not sure he has any. Perhaps he will.
3) Thornton at #8 but he will likely graduate off the list next week.
4) 12 of the 30 are Met newbies - 9 acquired in trades, 3 draftees. On paper at least, the rebuilding of the farm system seems to be working.
5) Ryan Clifford down to #16! Och! Not sure we will ever see him in a Met uniform.
6) Where is Billy Amick? I mean, what does the guy have to do? 29 HR's in 345 AB's isn't enough to impress these guys? If he can go deep 10% of the time, I don't care if he strikes out 40% of the time.
7) FWIW - Jett Williams is off the Top 100 list and down to Brewers #11. Brandon Sproat was demoted to AAA. Whereas the three guys the Mets acquired are ranked #12, 17, and 18. Three years hence, I would not be surprised if the Mets profited from acquiring and then flipping Peralta.
The elephant in this room is the upcoming lockout on December 1, during which no business can be conducted.
Essentially, the league will be open for business for one month only - November. Will there be a rush of trades, signings, etc. prior to the lockout? Or will teams stand pat until after the lockout (whenever that may be) when the rules could well be very different?
At least for the Mets, my guess is the latter.
I agree that it seems odd not seeing Amick anywhere on that list. And at his current trajectory I would expect to see Voit before 2028. If only as a short term callup.
