Receiving TD and had a long run and catch. He has done more from scrimmage tonight than he did at Iowa.

I think he'll be a great returner in the pros. Probably not a ton of production elsewhere, though

Pretty simple. He was more effective in scrimmage plays in his first NFL game than he was during his Iowa career. No more. No less.

He also fumbled on the 7 yard line against Oregon. That was a killer.

Not to mention, what you are claiming, probably isn't accurate. Wetjen made some plays at Iowa too.
And you should also specify tonight to have been a preseason game.
But since you don't have the balls to follow through on your reason for posting, here's what we know about Wetjen's offensive snaps.
Yes, he made a few plays. But it could be argued that Iowa would have beaten ISU, USC, and Oregon, had Wetjen never seen the field as a receiver or back.
He fell down attempting to run a simple route vs ISU, resulting in a pick 6.
He unnecessarily jumped, when attempting a reception on Iowa's last play vs USC. His jump allowed the USC db's to push him out of bounds before he could land, whereas a true receiver probably would have made the play without jumping.
And he had a huge fumble vs Oregon, when playing rb.
Again, Lester has said Wetjen couldn't run routes. He has no reason to make that up.
Unless gadget guys can actually play a true position, they can only be on the field so much. I think it was forced plenty with Wetjen.
The narrative, that you aren't admitting to, is classic fan crap. Play the fast guy. Chick's dig the long ball. The backup qb is the fan favorite. And Brendan Hausen should have played more

So, 28 minutes after I, here, called out 2D for his random posting of "pass the ball", (especially considering much of his advocacy for using Wetjen, was with jet sweeps), he has posted in the Tony Diaz thread, and convieniently ended with, "pass the ball".

It was to applaud Wetjen for having a great NFL debut. Do you feel a need to defend Kirk? Are you related to Eyes?
You want to great lengths to detail Wetjen's errors while at Iowa but you defend the worst OC in the history of major college football and the guy who hired him and kept him in that position.
Got caught from behind-in the pros. Don't think that ever happened as a Hawk.
I'll just say Lester made an effort to start incorporating the Jet into the offense more in his 2nd season as WR. Initially it was said he had issues running the correct routes and his timing within the offense was not good. Pretty hard to do much with a WR with those issues.
-Not trying to disrespect KW at all. Just pointing out some reasons why it's laughable for fans to complain that he should have played more, including his coach saying he couldn't run routes.
-Defend BF? No. Not in the way you're referring to.
The only opinion I've ever given about BF as an OC, is that I didn't care for him in that position. And that, from my severely underinformed position, it didn't appear he had a good feel for playcalling.

Special teams coach did not seem to happy with him after a bad return. For several years you couldn't even tell Iowa had receivers on the team.
Special teams coach might want to spend more time teaching his guys to block. Every return tonite by Pittsburgh had terrible blocking. No room for any returner to run.

Yeah, watch the replay and Wetjen had to make a swerve and he also had a slight stumble plus NFL teams have a lot of fast players, big deal if that is the only thing you can point out. Wetjen gets kudos for the sharp cut, the catch, making a good move and turning on the j"w"ets
The penalty on the return I saw was most likely due to the return being set for the right, but Wetjen appeared to bounce it to the left. Sometimes holds aren't entirely the fault of the player committing the hold. It happens all the time in the run game. The play is designed to be an off-tackle run, but the back tries to bounce it to the sideline. The OL has no way of knowing and gets called for the hold. Love Wetjen. It appeared the special teams coach was not pleased with his decision on the play mentioned.
Multiple scouts at the Shrine Bowl said he was open all day.
Pit broadcasters were glowing about how he was coming out of his breaks on routes.
He will be great in Pittsburgh and looking like he could be a steal.
Don't sleep on Brandon Smith making the roster too. He has been good in camp and looked good last night
We failed to run plays for him.
Wetjen benefited from poor pass coverage. On the long pass play he was open in part because the DB covering him fell down. He sure knows what to do in the open field. It is still TBD, though, whether he can continue to progress as a WR in his consistency and route-running. What we don't know is whether he struggles to learn plays or if he has an issue focusing when he doesn't have the ball in his hands.
