For f*ck’s sake. ME! ME! ME!

See the link below. From the article:

”An attorney representing Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has informed LSU that it can no longer use his name, image and likeness, according to an Aug. 5 letter sent to Tigers athletic director Verge Ausberry, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN on Wednesday.

At the center of the dispute, according to a statement from Daniels' spokesperson to ESPN, is that the Tigers are allowing sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear the No. 5 jersey that Daniels wore when he became LSU's third Heisman Trophy winner in 2023.

While Daniels' jersey hasn't been retired by the Tigers, it's the first time a player has worn No. 5 since he left the program for the NFL.

"The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU's decision to give Jayden's number to another player," the statement from Daniels' spokesperson said. "Jayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university."”

“Contributions to the university.“ A$$holes abound, but this pushes the envelope.

😞

The usual BS from lawyers. There are only so many number (0-99?). That number is not retired. The problem is what?

Assume LOI/contracts going forward will have some clause that provides for the school to use any player's likeness for promotional purposes. We are truly in the dumbest timeline.

Clearly the NCAA will have to allow more than two digits. Imagine a ref saying "Holding, on the offense, number six thousand seven hundred and thirty two."...
They do this in Liga MX (three digits)--saw one in the Crew Leagues Cup game last week.

In a perfect world, cfb teams bill the nfl teams that draft early-leaving players, or players who have not attained their degree for the following:

* In-State or Out-Of-State tuition (whichever applies)
* Every meal the player ate
* Books (not that they read them)
* Constant medical care and expertise
* Hourly coaching fee

Well I think it’s asinine and stupid. But I guess his “point” is that he doesn’t want LSU to use his Name Image and Likeness to promote LSU football if the school is letting someone else wear No. 5.

I really don't see anything wrong with it. He is entitled to feel that way.

If you think about it, any player, Daniels or otherwise, wearing an LSU jersey is using LSU's name, image and likeness a lot more than LSU is using the player's name, image and likeness.

And isn't Daniels using the name, image and likeness of every previous Commanders / Redskins player that wore jersey #5, of which there were many, one being Kickin' Sam Ficken?

This is not at all the same as Cappy. Cappy's number was retired and, to my knowledge, it has not been used by another Penn State football player.
It was not retired until Evan Royster moved on to the NFL. PSU announced that Royster would be the last person to wear the number, but it would be retired because of Cappy. Cappy was cool with that.
