This is not entirely surprising. He is an exceptional athlete who played quarterback in high school at a high level.

I think most people saw this coming.
Agreed. And with Manske back from his medical condition, the staff obviously felt comfortable with qb depth to make this switch now. All reports I heard out of hs football in the Lehigh Valley the last few seasons are that Peyton is a good kid.

If he can exercise patience to adapt to this new position (will take until next season to see PT) ala Tyler Warren, he can excel for PSU and possibly into the NFL. Mindset change required.

I believe both Auburn and JF told him during the recruiting process that he would be recruited as an 'athlete' and given a chance to play QB but that TE was option 2. I think he chose PSU thinking the roster turnover would give him more of a chance to get time at QB.

Watching him throw, you could see he was going to take a LOT of time to get to the P5 QB level. Warren is a good comp based on the size, athleticism, etc. Even if he just becomes a TE2 in 2 years it will be great.

I was a big advocate for Falzone's potential as a QB based on his high schooll achievements. But I understand the switch. I hope that it doesn't lead to a transfer to a school that will keep him at QB.

On the topic of the QB room, sounds like a fully heathly Manske has been looking good this camp. Getting some buzz from insiders and the coaching staff has been giving him praise. Maybe we won't be dipping into the portal next offseason after all.

For what it's worth, I've been reading a ton of good things about Becht too. He must be able to sling it and he's not afraid to let it rip into the heart of a defense. Really excited to see what this offense can turn into if everyone is able to stay healthy.

A lot of offseason "talk," yes. But enough to get me intrigued.

This is good news because it means Manske is the next man up and the staff has confidence in him.

So we may not need a portal QB and probably won't unless it goes south with Manske. A portal would expect to start and not want to sit behind Manske and Manske won't sit behind a portal.

Manske will have 3 years after this season? So what happens in 2028 with Wood? If Manske starts in '27 and is good then Wood is gone. He is not sitting behind Manske for 2 years.

I guess that is not a bad problem to have because it means we have a good QB #1 for the future.

This really has nothing to do with Manske. The kid can be Mike Gesicki. He just needed time to accept and embrace it. Not easy letting go of what you envision yourself to be.

If Manske didn't seem to be a great option and Falzone was showing to be pretty good at QB then he would not have switched. This tells us something about Manske.

Does it tell us something about Manske or does it tell us something about Falzone?

Maybe both. Apparently Falzone was a good HS QB so my thought or hope is that he would still be at QB if Manske was not showing the staff something and giving them confidence that they can reduce the depth at QB. Or it could be just that Falzone looked terrible at QB and had no shot of playing the position independent of Manske's development. Or something in between these two scenarios.

I haven't seen anything lately on how Connor Barry is doing in preseason camp. He was getting some good reviews in the spring. Anyone?
