How bout this cover? I told a friend of mine who is the guitar player and leader of a band here in Nashville to cover this song and to kill the guitar solo at the end of the song. He liked the idea but never even tried to play it. This is what I thought that it should sound like. Keith Urban and John Mayer covering a great Bread song. I sent this link to my friend, and he replied, ok I get what you were thinking now...........

My issue with the Bread version is that the whole song is about coming out to see the guitar player. The guitar player is going to knock you socks off......then a 4 bar guitar solo and done. The song the Guitar Man should be about a guitar man and then deliver on the aforementioned guitar skills...... it should be over the top in my mind, not a tasteful 4 bar grove.....just my thought. I also think that the combo of Mayer and Keith Urban is really great.
