I have decided to pick up the flag and lead the way this year in order to give props to the newly crowned King of The Cheesesteak...JD's Steaks in Sinking Spring! I grew up with the owner in our little Polish neighborhood on the Southside of Reading. Luckily, he opened the best sandwich shop in Berks a mile from my home.

JD's Philly Cheesesteak just went down to Philly and went head to head with Angelo's, Jim's, Pat's, Dalessandro's, Gazzo's and all the rest and came away with the top prize on their own turf.

I didn't need this contest to make up my mind because JD's has been my favorite cheesesteak since they opened. Jamey (owner) doesn't cut corners and only offers the best cut of steak and the best bread. If you're in the Reading area and you want to try the best, stop by JD's in Sinking Spring and order The Philly!

Technically speaking, shouldn't a Philly cheesesteak be available in Philly? 🤷‍♀️

The contest was for Philly and the Greater Philly region. The 2 finalists were actually Gazzo's out of Pottstown and JD's. I have friends down in Southeastern Berks who rave about Gazzo's but I have yet to give them a try.

I live out here in SW Ohio, the far reaches from cheesesteak central. The best we can do is Jersey Mike's cheesesteak. Just opened a WAWA but I've never eaten one of their cheesesteaks.

Please define Greater Philly for us all in the course of your shameful promotion? 🙄

Are Harrisburg, Reading, Lancaster, Wilkes-Barre and Windber considered Greater Philly?

Not my contest, so I can't speak for anyone else. By my definition, I'd say any region with no more than 1 county separating them from Philly.

I thought it was good but not Angelo's. It was also too small and the most expensive one I've had so far. Will have to go back and try again as I got the Chipotle cheesesteak so may not be a fair comparison.
We tried them when we were down for concerts recently, I did like Angelo's however we also take him home and we have found out that the Rossi's cheesesteaks heat up rather well.

As for price it seems in the ballpark with others. And size wise? I thought it was pretty substantial. To me I haven't seen much a size difference in them overall.

I have heard John’s Roast pork makes a good one as well as Skinny Joey’s. I’ll try Uncle Gus’ next time in Philly at the RTM, a joint effort between DiNic’s, Pearl Oyster Bar, and Angelo’s.

Voted for Jim's but honestly have never had a truly bad or subpar steak or hoagie in Bucks/Philly. Wife's local pizza place, Nina's II, has an awesome cheesesteak (I go red sauce, onions, hot peppers on that one). NoVa is such a food wasteland compared to Philly - I can throw a rock from nearly anywhere on Street Road and hit a good pizza/cheesesteak place but will have to drive an hour to find a decent one here. So, it's a lot of Jersey Mike's sadly. What they have in abundance with steaks, pizza, and hoagies, they lack in hot wings. That is where Western PA rules.

I voted for Angelos, but wanna try John's Roast Pork and DelRossi's, as I have heard good things. I thought Delassandro's was average. Lorenzo's in West Chester is pretty good, too.

John’s Roast Pork. Amazing. If you’re with others, I recommend getting a cheesesteak and a roast pork and splitting them. Two amazing sandwiches. Their hours are quirky, but the sandwiches are delicious.

I've always wanted to try a John's Roast Pork but have yet to do so. I'm headed down there to tailgate and see the game on Monday, so maybe I'll swing by.

A crime tat John's RP is not listed. My long time favorite. The "dad" version of his roast pork is a must try since it is the pork, raw onion, cheese, and mustard. Just need to try it.

Finally had Angelo's a few weeks ago and it may crept up to the top. The bread is what makes that sandwich there. Baf p-art is the wait time and there is a lack of places to actually eat it. I did walk a few blocks down where there is an outside beer garden near DiBruno's that works.

Never liked Jim's in the past. Too dry for some reason.

Never had the Steve's on the boulevard but the one near my house in Langhorne was awful the last time I was there. Very disapproving.

Been a while since I had Dalessandro's so I can't comment.

Another one missing is Curly's in Levittown. Excellent. Another one is Jay's in Langhorne that raises the bar with a pretzel roll.

I never understood the Philly cheesesteak debates. I've had many of the usual suspects and have a hard time picking the best. They are all very similar and all very good. In Virginia? Trash. Wawa makes the best cheesesteak in VA by a mile from my experience. Best hoagies in VA as well. Good pizza can be found, but it's not easy. The food quality delta between PA and VA is VAST.

i make the best cheesesteak in VA; the Balrog at the Bigfoot store in lexington is pretty damn good but not traditional.

As for other VA "hoagies," in NoVA, it's The Italian Store, hands down.

Seriously no. Attitude amounts to an excessive amount of pepper On his sandwich.

BTW, for anyone traveling to HV that has a craving, the best cheesesteak by far here is the South Street at Local Whiskey. Get a glass of Cab to wash that down and make sure you get fries.

if you find yourself next door at Local Reservations, get the cooper cheese cheeseburger with the apple butter jam and bacon. Tell them to leave off the kale. Get a glass of Cab or Malbec here as well To wash it down. In fact, get two.

Anyone in the Port - go to Tony's Delicatessen on Washington Blvd. for thin slice ribeye for tailgates this fall. Top notch for a griddle.
