I think top 60 is very doable with this defense. Some will depend on how well the offense can maintain possession and give the defense good field position to work with.

Top 50 would be outstanding given the pace of offense. OM was barely top 50 last year and put similar stress on their defense, albeit more quick scoring drives that we managed.

We would have won at least 8 games last year if our defense had been top 75.
Three things need to happen for us to be really good this year
1. Defense improve to at least top 75 preferably top 50
2. Offensive Line improve to bad from HISTORICALLY BAD last year
3. Major help from the new staff to improve our game management to at least average.

Looking at 2025 numbers, Top 50 would be an 8-pt improvement (which would put us around 10th in the SEC- displacing vandy). I think 1/2 of that in one year would be outstanding and certainly more realistic. That'd be upper 50's /60 ish, which I'd gladly take right here right now, no questions. But my gut tells me the improvement is likely more like 3 pts (This schedule is a muther). And that puts us around 82. BTW, I'm seeing 107/106ish [google/CGPT] for 2025 scoring D.

Nobody is actually thinking that we’re about to vault from 115 to top 50… right?

115 to 75 would be a Herculean feat.

In the world we live and play in today a team can go from 115 to top 10 in a year if you rented the right pieces during the off season, injuries stay away, and a little luck. You can also go from 115 to 120+ if you roll craps!

Just going by last years rankings it would take almost 8 points a game to get in the top 50. That is a lot. And yes sports reference says 106. I get something different every time I Google it. AI said the first number

I could see a lot of yards put up against our defense but not a lot of points based on that yardage. Seems like the 3-3-5 is a bend but don't break defense.

With Arnett, defense bends from 20 to 20. After that, it gets salty. I just want a defense that lines up correctly and gets in the way. Something Huntzler was unable to do.
