The latter. She's very likely not dumb and is probably above average intelligence (not above what this board would consider average intelligence, but I think people forget just how much of a bubble they are in and the vast hordes of morons they don't interact with on a daily basis). She's just maleducated and has responded to incentives. It's in her best interest to not understand things and say stupid ****, so that's what she does. The fact that she's freezing her eggs as a 36 year old tells me maybe that hasn't worked out for her in a holistic way, but if you just look at it from a financial perspective, she likely would have trouble making much beyond $100k otherwise (and could likely only hit that because of living in a high COLA), but instead gets much more than that plus the opportunity for graft.
