You sure can. You can live in Palatine and go to PHS or Fremd but the property values are very different from one block to the next. You can live in Arlington Heights and go to Wheeling

IC went 8-4 in the CCL with a win over 5A champ St. Francis. Completely untrue statement.IC and Montini were worlds apart last year.
I don't think IC beats Montini last year but I agree they were not worlds apart.IC went 8-4 in the CCL with a win over 5A champ St. Francis. Completely untrue statement.
And Montini went undefeated with a CCL schedule with a win over the 6A champ.IC went 8-4 in the CCL with a win over 5A champ St. Francis. Completely untrue statement.
whyAnd Montini went undefeated with a CCL schedule with a win over the 6A champ.
Beating Franny was definitely IC's signature win but their other wins against CCL teams were against Iggy, Viator, and Marmion who were a combined 7-20.
Montini realistically could have competed for a title in 5A or 6A, a game against IC wouldn't have been close.
Montini has more talent and they have been on a pretty steep rise the past few years and seem to be heading back to being the “old” Montini that used to win trophies in 6A.
I get that but to say Byron vs Montini last year wouldn’t have been a great game bc IC isn’t in Montini’s ballpark is BS.Montini has more talent and they have been on a pretty steep rise the past few years and seem to be heading back to being the “old” Montini that used to win trophies in 6A.
IC is very good - and probably the odds on favorite to win 3A, but they aren’t at Montini’s level.
Do you have a link for that story with the kids interviewed or point me in right direction?I don't know if you follow Trost on Twitter....or X....whatever you want to call it but like or hate the guy he posted a good interview with a mix of Private and Public school players for this year and the question was asked about how they would feel about a spilt of Private and Public and Mason Halliman of LWE said it doesn't matter "If you're a good team, if your coached well, practice well and do what your supposed to do you should win" he also said "I want more shots at these private schools". Everyone seemed to be in agreement.
Now I know he's one player and he's locked in to D1 and he plays at a public school that has had success, but I really think the high majority of kids who play in public schools want this to stay the same and to get their shot at knocking down a private school. Would Morris players not he psyched to play JCA in the playoffs? Or Sandburg not to get a shot at Providence or Marist? Does LWE back away from anyone? To those of you that have kids playing for Public schools I'm curious to know their honest opinion on this.
I've said a lot on this thread and really it's not the 30 mile radius or boundaries or ability to draw players because that's how it's been ran for many, many, decades and when public schools were having better success not a peep was mentioned....at least a loud a peep. So in closing for me what can be done? Change from 8 classes to 6.....get rid of this stupid 3 win and in rule they have this year, and tighten the damn transfer portal it's out of control. Do those 3 things and I think we will see a real improvement.
Shortening the radius will really effect many schools and may result in their closure sooner then later and is kids winning a $500 dollar metal ring with fake stones worth closing institutions that have been open and running for over 100 years?
Fairly typical reaction from a kid. Im sure my CPL son would love a shot at Mt. Carmel or Brother Rice in the playoffs. Doesnt make it right that he should have to face them(and get slaughtered) and as an adult, his opinion on it may change, especially when he has a child.I don't know if you follow Trost on Twitter....or X....whatever you want to call it but like or hate the guy he posted a good interview with a mix of Private and Public school players for this year and the question was asked about how they would feel about a spilt of Private and Public and Mason Halliman of LWE said it doesn't matter "If you're a good team, if your coached well, practice well and do what your supposed to do you should win" he also said "I want more shots at these private schools". Well a 1/4 of our 15 mile radius is Lake MichiganI dont think kids have the proper context to address this question. One of the top players in the country doesnt understand why his team playing "Hoopsville" is embarrassing and thinks they can go play Corner Canyon who beat IMG.
When I was a kid I couldnt figure out why we could smoke Bradley and struggle with Andrew. Well, the difference became obvious when when I moved that short mile into DGS territory. That 2x as many kids really made a difference on the gridiron when both programs were strong. All my questions about what would've happened if we played Lincoln Way my sophomore year were answered, they would've cooked us, we didnt have the kids to compete with a top 6A program. Even what some say was the most talented Brook team ever, 1995 couldnt beat Romeoville (6A semifinalist that got manhandled in the semis).
@McCaravan why do you think schools will close if the sports playing students come within 15 miles?

This is a game that probably shouldn’t even be played for player safety reasons.I wonder if the Bronco starters play more than an opening quarter? Pretty crazy that a kid going to Miami will open his senior season against the Cornjerkers.
I hope the Montini community does the kids and fans from Hoopeston well and takes care of them pre and post game.
When was this mythical time when public schools were having better success? I said it before that private schools have won 129/348 total championships, so 15% of IHSA member schools are winning 37% of the titles. I broke it down by decade and privates have consistently won between 30%-37% of the championships every decade with the exception of this decade where it currently sits at a 58% winning percentage, but we're only halfway through the roaring '20's so TBD on what the next 4 years will bring.when public schools were having better success not a peep was mentioned....at least a loud a peep.
I realize it takes a lot of fundraising for every aspect of a private school, but it's a little difficult to listen to you cry poor when MC recently opened a new stadium, JCA is building a new complex, St. Laurence just opened a new fieldhouse, and didn't Naz recently purchase land to expand? And all this is tied to athletics, so the overall financial health of these schools must be doing ok if they can ear mark large amounts of money for sports.Well a 1/4 of our 15 mile radius is Lake Michigan. So I honestly hope that would be expanded but I'd have to see the final map. But for starters if they went a 15 mile radius MC would lose probably 30-40 students, athletes or not, and most of them being from NW Indiana. But 30-40 tuitions. 30 less tuitions is about 500K.
Despite what some think MC is not Scrooge McDuck swimming in a pool of Gold. They also do not give out free rides. At the end of the year all students tuitions must be paid in full either by the family, someone on their behalf, scholarship that is privately funded, or State Financial Aid. They just don't say "we gotcha". After all the tuition is paid a school like MC still has to raise 7 figures just to keep the school running and lights on. It's a 130 year old building with a new building attached that isn't paid off. So an extraordinary amount of fundraisers has to be done yearly to keep the school out of the red. Eliminate 30 (low end) tuitions and that's 500K more that had to be raised on top of the million plus they are already raising.
Rita whose enrollment is about 100 less then MC would feel it worse and BR whose enrollment is slightly more would still feel a very big sting. MC, SR and BR are the three remaining all boys schools on the South Side....and Leo so 4. MC toyed with letting girls in a few years ago and it became an amazing fundraiser because nobody wanted it. In all honesty they would lose more boys then gain girls......
It's a dogfight trying to get these students. All the schools MC competes with for students is in the same financial boat, with Marist sitting the most pretty. Taking 15 miles from our recruiting area would be huge blow to these schools.
Little background as to why/how we get NW Indiana students. There are 2 Catholic HS in that region and it's a very large region. Bishop Noll which is equal to a IL 1A school and hanging on by a thread, and Andrean which is equal to a 3A school. That's it. Many cross the border for bigger competition and MC is really not that far and a Shore Shore line stops in front of the school. 15 miles would get maybe East Chicago and Hammond, maybe Munster.
By better I meant better then what they are currently doing not better then the private overall. I know you busted out your Big Bang Theroy like stats SheldonWhen was this mythical time when public schools were having better success? Field was always there, Carey Field it was called. Been there for a long time. Stand Construction was mostly donated through a construction company who was a legacy. Not all but most. I'm surprised you didn't look that up SheldonI realize it takes a lot of fundraising for every aspect of a private school, but it's a little difficult to listen to you cry poor when MC recently opened a new stadium, JCA is building a new complex, St. Laurence just opened a new fieldhouse, and didn't Naz recently purchase land to expand? So two of the most successful public programs in the state and Richards is your proof that was we're seeing is an anomaly?By better I meant better then what they are currently doing not better then the private overall. I know you busted out your Big Bang Theroy like stats Sheldon. For many years there were consistent dominant and successful Public Schools each year and more then just occasionally. Richards, WWS, Maine South to name just a few.
Question for you as you've been one of the strongest opponents against privates on this board, If you had a son who was a legit talent, getting college attention and was going to see the field no matter where he went. and you lived in range of MC, and he visited there and it all clicked and he felt this was the best place for him and would take his game to another level and play teams with top end talent weekly.....would you support his choice? In the hypothetical world you like to visit![]()
Odd that you would call me out for looking things up. Should I just make assumptions or make things up and pass them off as facts?Field was always there, Carey Field it was called. Oh and don't forget BR's multi million dollar baseball field and complex. I won't insult your intelligence, you know what fundraisers are for, you know what they do. It's to better your current product to help increase, in this case, enrollment which brings in more tuition and funds to the school. BR didn't write a check for that stadium they raised money for years. If you are fortunate enough to have a wealthy alum who donates large amounts but specifys they want it to be spent on this or that, you do what they say. And they get a nice tax write off for their charitable donation. These schools didn't pay for these out of any school account and your smart enough to know that so why keep bringing it up?I realize it takes a lot of fundraising for every aspect of a private school, but it's a little difficult to listen to you cry poor when MC recently opened a new stadium, JCA is building a new complex, St. Laurence just opened a new fieldhouse, and didn't Naz recently purchase land to expand? Well aware they didn't use any school accounts and was never implying they did just saying that if a school is having issues, then fundraising for sports should be at the bottom of the list.Oh and don't forget BR's multi million dollar baseball field and complex. I did take a look, but since it's a private school cost was conveniently not disclosed.
Maybe they went there because they were Catholic, main reason why many go to Catholic Grade Schools. So two of the most successful public programs in the state and Richards is your proof that was we're seeing is an anomaly?
What hypothetical world? I've just been presenting facts. In this situation I'd let little Jimmy know colleges will find him no matter where he goes. I'd explain that paying $60k for four years of HS won't produce the ROI to make it worth it.
Morris has a catholic grade school and I had multuple friends go there and they're no smarter or better off than I am. Went to college with kids who went to private high schools and they didn't end up with careers any better than mine.
Some people enjoy theatre and some enjoy football. It's their money.Well aware they didn't use any school accounts and was never implying they did just saying that if a school is having issues, then fundraising for sports should be at the bottom of the list.
Private schools are constantly in a fluid situation every year, trying to fundraise to cover expenses while also upgrading academic and extracurricular facilities. No doubt academics are the top priority, but athletics and extracurriculars are important too, especially when every student enrolled matters.Well aware they didn't use any school accounts and was never implying they did just saying that if a school is having issues, then fundraising for sports should be at the bottom of the list.
