For those starving for any and all UK bball content during this next slow couple of weeks. Goodman interviewed Pope today (link below). About halfway through he talks about the team specifically and how they look at the end of the 8 week summer practice sessions which I had wanted to hear about. Talks a lot about Wilkins, Zoom, Mason and how they play together so well and also talks about Milan. He also talks about his concerns for this group. I'll take any content I can get right now lol.

Fire him already year 1 physicality was an issue and here we go again
Well, he kind of tried that last season and it didn't turn out well. For instance, Dioubate. Just never really worked in his offense. He doesn't seem to coach physical teams well...he seems to be a better coach with very quick fast guys who can shoot the ball. That worked well in season 1 and I think we've got that again this season. He knows this is a make or break year. Might as well go big or go home, as in, get the exact guys who play the exact style he is best at coaching and see where the chips fall. Me, I like this team and I'm excited for the season.

I worry that physicality/toughness is just going to be a weakness on Pope's teams. Hopefully a combination of length and skill can overcome it. We played dumb last year after playing smart the first year. If we can play more like the first year but avoid major injury problems, we can be a pretty good team. Add a star level 4 late and we could be a really good team. But we have to play smart and we have to avoid injuries.

How did we play smart the first year?

It was exactly the same as year two.

No defense, no rebounding. Team just quit both seasons.

Pope got a little lucky having players that had been coached elsewhere.

No player development. Players out of shape.

First year got man handled by Clemson. Just quit in MSG against Ohio State. Didn’t even show up against Alabama in the SEC tournament.

Same for UT in the S16 game.

Go back and watch any Pope coached team anywhere. They play the same way.

Run a junior high offense and hope they go in. Play a hope they miss defense and just shrug it off when they don’t.

Players not in condition. It’s who he is as a coach.

UK has a pretty full roster and still seem like more starters are needed badly. Players on the current roster might not take that too well.
