NFL is a much bigger deal in a lot of Big 10 Markets
I don’t know. Schools like Ohio St, Michigan & Penn State seem to be pretty big deals. Big 10 attendance is about a wash vs SEC attendance. But that’s just the regular people. If you’re a billionaire who graduated from a Big 10 school, who are you going to give your money to? The Bears or Northwestern?

It's definitely going to end its dominance. Already has. But that doesn't mean the B1G will always dominate. Just more parity.

I’d have to be on Elon Musk level to ever consider donating $35M to a college to use however they please for athletics
What's really crazy is that sounds like a lot. And it is. But that's only about 1 year's worth of NIL.

It was only a matter of time. That stadium is awesome. I’ll never forget us losing to those 17s my Junior year.

I work with a ton of people from Ohio, and Ohio State is all they talk about

Someone once told me that Alabama's big donors might own a car dealership. The Big Ten's own a car company.
We keep talking in terms of conferences…..well Texas and aTm are SEC and have more than anybody. I mean it’s all over the map.

Funny how Alabama's dominance ended when everyone can pay players, huh?
I think losing Saban has more to do with them missing the playoffs in 2024. However they made the playoffs in 25 and won a game on the road

we shall see how 2026 and forward goes before counting them out.

This thread caused me to do some research on populations and student enrollment.

Prior to the California schools, the B1G had a slight population advantage over sec (even with Texas included) but had a smaller student population. However with the addition of the California schools, the B1G has much larger numbers.

with that said, we are talking about Northwestern. The smallest school in both conferences but in the 3rd largest U.S. city. But it only takes one person to give $35 million.

now with that said, that $35 will be gone as soon as NW gets it, to pay NIL for one year. ONE YEAR! A pebble in a black hole.

Northwestern is an elite university with an amazing campus and lots of wealthy grads. But like Stanford, it's admissions standards for athletes are, or perhaps were, above those of other D-1 schools, something that held them back. Stanford's success always surprised me because they had to recruit from a small pool of talented athletes with strong academic backgrounds. There just aren't a lot of elite players in that group and other schools picked them off. Indiana's success shows what money and a great coach can do. We'll see what money and a good coach at Northwestern can accomplish. I suspect they'll need more sugar daddies to step up to compete with the big boys.

Anyway, where's our football-devoted sugar daddy?

I've always heard that. Also about Vandy too. But I wonder how true it is. Seems like that's a choice the school can make.

Let’s just say if my son can play football & your son can’t, my son is going to have a much much better chance of being admitted to either Northwestern or Vanderbilt. Heck yes the rules stem bent over backwards to get the athletes in

My FIL has lived in MS 45+ years and still watches every Penn St sporting event he possibly can. It's all he talks about

This is one of the reasons why the SEC should actively go after Texas Tech and a few other schools. Just think how rich the SWC would be today if it didn't break up.

Also it’s not like Ohio State and several of the other Big 10 schools even need a leg up. They’re already dominant programs. Also how does Notre Dame consistently out recruit the SEC when you look 👀 at recruiting rankings? I’m gonna guess money like everything else. Keep in mind I haven’t checked the rankings in a bit.

Also does anyone that Clemson and another team might join the SEC? It makes locational sense that Clemson is a as much or more in SEC territory than South Carolina. Or are they too Cosy in the ACC? Absolutely don’t mean to change the topic but didn’t want to start a whole thread over it.
