He better play to Win this time…his job depends on it.Play loose, and not to lose!![]()
Yeah sure… we didn’t pay top dollar for Duff. You honestly believe our total coaching expense is the reason we can't buy 4* and 5* players? No way our staff is 2x the B1G median, that's plain ignorant. Total comp is paid in many ways. NIL is the ability to buy a star DE who can pressure the QB into mistakes. We don't have the ability to pay top dollar. Takes excellent coaching to get to the middle of the B1G without commensurate support.
Great commentary for a loyal son summing up Schiano as a head coach.

"Could not agree more Larry. My view for the last many years now, is that the R faithful have been conditioned, including self-appeasement, to accept mediocre as “the norm”. It’s this very type of mindset that dooms it all before we ever get going. How is it possible that we are not setting standards including Big10 championships, playoffs, 10 wins seasons, etc. Everything else in that journey is just noise, distractions and excuses. Personally, I can no longer accept it."
Sure, that’s fine, but recognize that we are just starting to get some money. Our portal haul is good but small. It will take a few years to regularly beat Wisconsin and Iowa and Nebraska.Great listen. And what most if not all are saying in this thread. O one is asking to beat the top 4-5 in conference. But how about competing with that middle 8. Nothing wrong with raising the floor. But it’s beyond time to raise the ceiling. Compete with the top25-50 range and upset a top 25 here and there. 51-70 should not be a coin flip.
Why will it take years to beat Wisconsin Iowa or Nebraska? Wisconsin and Nebraska are at historical lows in their program. Iowa doesn’t have a significant advantage with talent or NIl spending. These are teams we should be winning against at a greater clip.Sure, that’s fine, but recognize that we are just starting to get some money. Our portal haul is good but small. Now is the absolute worst self-defeating time to be a negatoid!
We will beat them regularly as soon as we regularly have the $$$$$ to get the players. X’s and O’s game day coaching won’t do it regularly. Why will it take years to beat Wisconsin Iowa or Nebraska? Schiano has done a fantastic job with our meager resources.
If it’s true that we finally have some money to improve, I’m very confident that we will!!
I’m pretty optimistic for our future. But, it may take a few more years to gradually win more, and gradually get more $$$$, to fully realize our dreams.
Bring in the next Chris Ash and we will be set back for many years.
Don’t be stupid, we have a good coach and he’s a Rutgers man, not some stranger!
Let’s go RU!
Awful coach terrible man ! Can not wait until we finally stop being scared of his buy out and toss him outWe will beat them regularly as soon as we regularly have the $$$$$ to get the players. X’s and O’s game day coaching won’t do it regularly.

Winning at a greater clip ? How about winning one game against any of them. Why will it take years to beat Wisconsin Iowa or Nebraska? Wisconsin and Nebraska are at historical lows in their program. Our coaching spend is in the bottom half of the league in which we compete yet you shout about overspending. "Burry" your head if you want.
Once again name calling. Did you listen to the above posted podcast. Listen and get back to me.
I like Greg as a human. As a builder of program. A builder of men. His stats and coaching prowess.are nowhere near where you claim them to be when we are playing rosters with similar resources.

He is the headcoach so he has overall responsibility, but he has not micro managed the coordinators in 2.0 until he had to, like last year when he took over for Smith. It actually doesn’t matter at this point. The task in front of Schiano right now is pretty straightforward.
1) He can’t have a 4 win season. If he does, he’s out. Even if half our starters sustain season ending injuries. No scenario where he’s retained if he doesn’t match last season’s record at bare minimum.
2) He’s going to turn the keys over to his coordinators - his success will be defined by theirs. Started to do this gradually the past 2 years with Kirk. And now the hires he made on D aren’t guys coming here to be figureheads to Greg. If the defense is notably better, and the offense has a solid season (comparable to last season with no notable drop off) - that’ll represent “enough” year over year success for him to be brought back, and will in the short run, pacify the concerns about his game day decisions (since he’ll have moved in a more passive oversight direction).
With 2 - everyone of course wants to see us win more - but it’s hard to point to a record he “must attain” because there are just so many different factors that will impact that and Greg was “smart” strategically in what he did with the overhaul of the defense - so if that unit impresses relative to expectations and the offense remains steady - most fans will probably want them to get a shot in 2027 to build on it (which would mean Greg is along for the ride).
It’s really this simple. Optically - the team can’t lose more than last year and the coordinator’s coaching teams on both sides need to show clear promise. That’s what’s going to determine Greg’s fate.
It’s highly unlikely Greg is planning to insert himself - he wouldn’t have picked Johansen for that. So this is where we are at - for better or worse.
In fairness Wiscy schedule was brutal in 2025 - Alabama, Michigan, OSU, Oregon, Indiana and Iowa, all Top 25. If would be nice if we could get a win against Wiscy and USC one of these years. This needs some analysis
2024- lost to horrific 5-7 Michigan State, 4-8 Northwestern, and 7-6 Rutgers. Rough schedule with Indiana, Minnesota, Oregon, Iowa and Penn State on Schedule. They Beat USC>
2025- only B1G win was Horrific Wisconsin; Lost to Terrible UCLA, not so good Rutgers and lousy Michigan State. Overall, a softer schedule and 2025 was a worse 4-8 than 2024's 4-8.

Fickell's performance is still shockingly bad .In fairness Wiscy schedule was brutal in 2025 - Alabama, Michigan, OSU, Oregon, Indiana and Iowa, all Top 25. If would be nice if we could get a win against Wiscy and USC one of these years.
You see, that is the excellence he delivers: “top spot”. Can‘t get any higher. In fact, no more reason to Keep Choppin. He kept receipts and we should all eat crow.Across Greg's entire 18-year college head coaching career, He has a 14-87 (.138) record against teams that finished the season with a winning record.
in 2.0, he has beaten 0 p4 teams with a winning record
the last coach to beat a p4 team with a winning record was Coach Flood
Rutgers holds the top spot for p4 teams with the longest time for not beating a p4 team with a winning record

Remember, it's P4 teams--maybe he was basing on when they played. Quick check, this is year end record, before bowls:There’s no way that’s right. Off hand, 2024 Minn had a winning overall record as well as a winning record in conference play (so regardless of what you meant, that one has to qualify).

Grand Total 14-70 (0.167) That is still quite pathetic, especially 2.0. Keli Zinn herself has said she wants to see the team punching above it's weight.
We agree. Moved him up a notch from extremely bad to very bad. My math may be subject to errors, but I think I got it right.I wasn’t questioning the 14-70, nor was I suggesting the resume is anything other than underwelming.
If a point is to be made, it ought to be factually accurate though. He said we haven’t beaten any P4 teams with winning records under 2.0 and I knew that couldn’t be right because of Minny 2024. At the time we played them they had a 6-3 record and were 4-2 in the BIG. They finished the regular season 5-4 in the BIG and 7-5 overall and then won their bowl game to end 8-5. Checking every imaginable box for interpretations of winning record.
We agree. Moved him up a notch from extremely bad to very bad. My math may be subject to errors, but I think I got it right.
And since we are keeping score, there was another thread on beating ranked teams. Frankly, that's a useless stat when a team beats a team ranked early in the season that later craaaps the bed and ends up unranked and with a losing record. One of GS's ranked wins was against a then #23 USF that fell from the rankings--I forget what their final record was. Anyways, 1.0 is quite irrelevant now, just like Matt Rhule's performance at Baylor is irrelevant and the Purdue coach's record at Missouri and UNLV. Right now is all that matters. Onward, upward--please!!!!
fairYeah, that’s a good point. In my opinion, evaluating how 2.0 fared against teams that finished with 6-9 wins seems like a better measuring stick than looking at our overall ranked record. The collection of losses handed to us by 1 and 2 loss OSU, Michigan and PSU teams who only lost to each other isn’t why fans are so fed up with Greg.
There’s a huge divide between Top 12 ranked finishers and the teams that finish 15-25ish in the rankings. Arguably - I’m not sure there’s been a team on our schedule during the 2.0 era that would’ve finished in that 15-25 after absorbing a loss to us. Iowa last year (and in 2023) and Illinois (past 2 years) would’ve fallen out for sure. But - these are the kinds of games we need to start finding a way to win sometimes but have failed to do.
fair
still sucks
@RUTGERS95 may commandeer a banner plane to fly over SHI for each Home Game.Absolutely. Last year alone - we beat a pair of 9 and 7 win MAC teams. Went 0-5 against the collection of BIG teams in that 6-9 win range. Awful.
The year before we technically did a little better against this group (6-9 win teams) but ruined it by imploding against a pair of bad 5 win teams (UCLA and Wisconsin. That year we went 3-2 against 6-9 win teams - beat Minny (8 wins), Wash and VTech (6 win teams). Lost to USC and Nebraska (7 win teams. Then there was also the Illinois loss (10 wins - ice the kicker disaster).
Over the past 2 years he’s 4-2 against BIG teams that finished with 5 or less wins. He’s 3-7 against 6-9 win BIG teams and 0-3 against 10+ win teams (including the ice the kicker debacle). It is what it is. It stinks, but
not Ash level sucking which is why he’s not gone yet given our financial situation. The defense stood out as historically awful and hes turned over the keys as a lifeline. His short term future now depends on whether or not his new defensive staff can work a miracle.
