Sounds like the US Open is going to just be the World Team Trials for 2027 for Olympic weights only, and there are only a few more opportunities to qualify for it, at least domestically: 2026 Farrell, 2027 NCAA's, Last Chance Qualifier.

I suppose you could go get a gold at the Friendship Tournament in Mauritius this October to meet the "2026 & 2027 Senior Men’s Freestyle UWW sanctioned event Gold Medalist" criteria.

No word on non-Olympic weight world team trials for 2027. I've heard Willie and FRL both talk about rumblings that USA Wrestling wants to potentially move the Olympic team trials up to December 2027, so this would help that.

Caveat: it's possible I'm misinterpreting things.

You're not misinterpreting anything. This is stupid. Having the Olympic team trials in December is stupid and belies the truth. Which is that we're good because of the RTCs and guys staying/living/being coached by their coach.

You want to have Olympic Trials in December because what??? You want more camps? F'in ridiculous.

College guys can wrestle in it and start folkstyle 2nd semester. That's one positive. Now they don't have to wrestle trials a month after training folkstyle for the last 6 months

The real question about a December trials is if Aaron Brooks will be eligible.

My understanding is that he's ineligble until June 2027 but I'm unsure of that.

So now we’re sacrificing half a season of NCAA wrestling for USAW?!

Unfuggingbelievable
So if Penn State has virtually its entire team participating to make the team at December Trials, what does that do to the college program? Perhaps Cael’s penchant for a lighter non-conference schedule and his maintenance of depth across most weight classes will keep things moving positively for the college team until after the freestyle guys come back.

That’s one team… and more importantly- PSU writes Cael’s checks, not USAW.

Soldier Salute hardest hit.

Seriously, it might not be a huge impact. Not that many undergrads will be eligible for Senior Trials, and they're largely clustered in teams that typically don't face each other in first semester.

Though this just made OKST Duals a lot less tenable. What a shame.

PSU's fall schedule is basically: Black Knight Tourney, Lehigh, one other non-conference, and Journeymen.

I don't see this getting in the way of Black Knight. Most of our guys eligible for Trials can go, not a huge deal. Caveat: it's often within a week of Bill Farrell -- maybe a lot more guys compete there as their prep for Trials.

Lehigh ... Cael didn't come to PSU to beat them.

Journeymen ... Cael could take the entire team and rotate guys in and out. Cap the starters at 1 match each.
