WNBA just can't get out of its own way

This transgender issue has become something larger than the WNBA is able to handle. They could have gotten ahead of the issue a long time ago and simply amended their rules to allow only biological women (i.e. women), but the league is largely populated with virulently liberal women. Now they've painted themselves into a corner. You've had coaches and players openly repeatedly voicing support for transgender players in the league (though obviously none of them actually want that). The one player who spoke up in defense of women's sports has been bullied for her position (as have her fans). You would think things couldn't get worse. But they did.

Two former NBA players comically declared for the WNBA draft. The WNBA could have dismissed these as publicity stunts, or even better yet, just ignore them entirely. Instead, they respond in the absolute worst way possible, by saying they will be convening a task force to determine what a woman is for the purposes of competing in the WNBA. So much of the league's leadership has already voice support for inclusion and condemned any kind of exclusion. The league has been falling all over itself to support this issue. Are they actually doing to a total 180 and say "welllll, on second thought we didn't actually mean any of that" (which would be the honest response) or will they stick to their guns (which NONE of them actually want to do)?

They've created a no-win situation for themselves. They're one step away from hiring an outside consulting firm.

I hope the two "women" are drafted and they go on to dominate with ridiculous stat lines of triple-triples every night and turn that applecart completely upside down. It would be a riot to watch the fallout. People would have to wake up to the insanity at some point, right?

It would not surprise me in the least if the wnba quickly enacted a rule with a vague, murky description of what constitutes a woman.

They are then free to ignore these two brave young ladies and go on pretending they really are okay with men playing in the wnba.

I would even wager the vague definition includes some language about the man having to be "living as a women" or some litmus test of "sincerity".

They simply cant let these two brave young ladies on the court. It would be ratings gold short term, but be horrible for the league long term.

Yep they will come up with some lawyer-designed mumbo-jumbo to try and salvage their incredible lack of leadership. Hopefully lawsuits to be able to play will follow. After all, they are all about inclusion, right?

Safe money says, whatever they do will only exacerbate the issue.

I bet they'll come out with some "definitive" statement that leaves everyone asking "huh?"

WNBA could blow the whole thing up and reveal that there are already some transgenders playing in the league and they really aren't that good. That would prove all the people wrong who say a transgender would dominate.

perhaps the league was not previously in a panic over a threat that apparently did not exist until recently when cultural wars dictated a response to many, most of whom have no interest in the wnba other than a place to establish their fake concerns
the men talking about going to the nba are but stooges for a faction so tentative about their own proclivities that they must do virtue signaling par excellance
much attaboys hubba hubbas & pats on the back
the polls are bad.....this is leading to this outbreak in feigned outrage

Say what you want (being stooges and virtue signaling), but this is EXACTLY what is needed and now "rubber meets road". I agree with others here that a response will be very obscure but in today's world, with even SC Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson refusing to answer what a woman is, our society has created this and as a result of their total depravity and human bravado, they are having to deal with this head on. I, for one, am a firm believe in Genesis 1:27 .... Lord, come quickly!

Blackflag, I have no desire for this ... I recognize your name as a longtime poster (like me) and I try to keep my comments civil and also try to not make things personal. I will say that if I am accused of being a Christ follower, then thank you as I am and the alternative is not something anyone will want ... do they now? Certainly our human pride can say all we want, but one day, well, it will be a different story! As for the point at hand, I am full convicted that this is the right move and is forcing the WNBA to "practice what they preach". With this, there is no proselytizing, merely noting the WNBA, if they truly believe the rhetoric, will now need to back it up. To follow up with your last comment, scripture tells us that the Messiah forgave those who crucified Him so yes, I will say he had "heart" for those who nailed Him to the cross!

Well put. I expect an equally well intentioned, well thought out response. :)

I recall back in the late 1980s, I was promoted to a position. I asked the state-wide elected official who promoted me what he wanted me to accomplish in the position. He told me that in that job, I was going to have to say "NO" a lot of times to a lot of people. He said that there's a nice way to be negative and a very mean way to be negative. I expect you to take the former route. Obviously, that directive has stuck with me decades later. But, it's easier to say than to do. I say that because outside the work-world, I, admittingly, have fallen short, at times, because I'm not perfect. It was a great and appropriate directive. I just have to work harder at self-discipline. I believe a lot of us do.
