2027 has the looks of a promising year.
QB: All three of the main prospects will be eligible to play. Don't see either Brown or Hecklinski blowing up to the point they jump to the NFL. If they do, 26 will have been a special season.
RB: Every guy on the roster will be eligible to return. In reality, one or more will leave-either to the portal or hopefully the NFL. Will still be a deep position
WR: All eligible to return. RVZ is the only guy who has shown any glimpse of developing into an NFL-caliber player. There is a lot of good buzz around Diaz. I have high hopes for Stinson. I am really hoping this group makes big strides this year
TE: Ostrenga is done after this year. DJV may leave for the NFL if he continues on his trajectory. There are some good looking prospects in the wings.
OL: Dotzler and Myslinski will be gone. Lauck and Piper are 50/50 to head to the NFL barring injuries. If they both come back, this will be one of the best lines in the country.

Pieper is gone after this year, and it’s Pieper, not Piper.

I think Lauck and Pieper are more like 90% gone to the pros. Especially if Pieper does move to center. Those are harder to find and they go higher in the draft than G’s. Lauck has 1st round buzz, as long as he doesn’t get hurt he is gone.

Regardless, 2027 seems to be the year the coaching staff is prepping for long term. Only 10 scholarship seniors on the roster this year. They got almost exclusively multi year guys out of the portal. I have high hopes, if we somehow get Lauck and Lutmer to stay, watch out.

Yes. I looked it up and Dane Brugler has Piper as the #1 prospect and Lauck #2 at their positions.

I'd be SHOCKED if both Brown and Hecklinski are still on this roster in '27 (no, neither is going to the NFL). Very, very rare nowadays for anyone to take the role of QB2 two consecutive years in college football anymore, much less three. The guy who doesn't come out on top this year will be in the portal again. I do like our QB situation for '27, though, with a clear QB1, a few highly-talented guys already on the roster competing for QB2 with maybe even another transfer.

Wow, somebody is really jumping the gun here. If Heck or Brown have a great year another school might offer them twice the money.

Portal/transfers, NIL and big $$$$ makes planning for next year just a crap shoot

Absolutely true. I don't expect the passing game to explode to the point bluebloods line up to steal QB and WRs. I expect a slow development throughout the year. And yes, any number of things can happen between now and then.

While that is true, the short portal era history shows that it’s not as volatile for Iowa as it is for most schools. Not only does Iowa have fewer transfers than most schools, it’s even more rare for a player to leave Iowa who is thriving and going somewhere else to step it up a level. The closest example of that is Charlie Jones, but that was a case of a guy being criminally underutilized by the most clueless WR coach-OC combination in history.

I think a lot of 2027 hinges on what happens this year. If we show significant strides in positions such as WR taking a big step forward, the RB tandem of Moulton/Phillips is killer, and the QB looks as good as it's been in a decade; I think players who have a chance to jump to the NFL may be convinced to stay just one more year for a deep CFP run.

A lot of the media have alluded that Kirk is building towards making a run in 2027. Makes sense considering so many guys on both sides of the ball have at least 2+ years left. For now we're stuck in wait and see mode. Is Diaz as good as advertised? Can Phillips adjust to the Big Ten? Can Moulton finally break away? Will the QB, whoever it is, be as good as we need them to be?

If we put up a good fight in the early tough three game stretch and dominate the latter half of the schedule, I think things will be looking bright for next year's offense.

KF built this team for '26.

He couldn't give two ***** about '27 right now.

He will build next year's team for '27.

Go Hawks!

In all seriousness, speculation is fun. It can be interesting. But with the wild west state of affairs in CFB, the cupboard, as it were, will literally range from bare to bursting.

And now introducing: "BF purposefully sacrificed offensive stats the last few years of his tenure because of his vision for the future, and that's why our offense is good now."

Honestly can't remember the last starting QB from the big, in good standing, transferring. Maybe Raiola, although that's debatable about him being in good standing.

And yes. Absolutely 0-0, and run the ball

Not sure what you mean.

But I only include, "go Hawks", when responding to 2D.

He mocked my usage of it, by using it in a few posts in a row one night.

Then he realized how obviously he had blown his own cover (as he claims to have me "deleted" from his screen), created the "magical Kinnick" thread, entirely as a cover up, where he was able to end his OP with a, "and as always, go Hawks", and then disappeared from the board for 8 days. 🤣

So now, I just post, "go Hawks", to remind 2Dishonest that I'm aware of his lie
