Whatever happened to Don Williams? He did Sportstalk for awhile and, I tihnk did something with our football radio broadcasts.

And is Teddy Hefner still around?

Don Williams worked for the Clemson broadcasting operation for awhile- or the company who had the rights- that was a few decades ago.

The only thing I know Don does is cover The Masters for Phil's sports talk show. Don calls him from the payphones at Augusta during Masters week and talks to Phil on the air. Don has been doing that for decades. Still does it.

I haven't listened to Teddy in years. He's just too boring. I think he has a morning Columbia radio show on one of those super weak AM stations that you have to be near to hear. I use to listen to him but I have not even heard his voice in 10+ years.

As I recall, Teddy's show was mostly him reading the newspaper to his audience, saving them a buck I suppose.

Phil has his show on form 6-8pm in the evenings- still broadcast on various channels around South Carolina. Phil is usually in the Columbia studio but broadcasts a fair amount from the beach in the summer. No plans that I know of to retire. It's also broadcast on video too.

I think Phil's show is better now than it ever has been to be honest. He talks about various issues, takes pretty strong opinions, and takes phone calls. He also has good guests and he still shows up at all the USC and Clemson stuff and asks good questions to people in charge.

He also still does his Friday night 10pm-midnight radio show of high school football coverage in the fall.

He does a solid job.

His sidekick also does a good job- he broadcasts out of his home down in Sardis, SC. They have their studio guy (call screener guy) who is much younger and chimes in a little.

I listen online as the radio station in Columbia is hard for me to pick up where I live.
Thanks for the heads up. I listen to archived podcasts on my morning walks; it looks the most recent show is there for streaming. I’ll put Phil in the rotation.

Hung out with my nephew over the weekend. He's a big time PSU fan, so we were talking about the upcoming season and our schedules. He rattled off their conference games (Wisc, NW, Mich, SoCal, Purdue, Wash, Minnesota, Rutgers) and then asked about ours. I was halfway through our conference schedule when he laughed and said "good grief! that's brutal." He said if you picked 5 random games from the SEC it would be a tougher schedule than playing the 5 best teams from the Big 10.

Well, when your conference wins three national titles in a row, with three different conference members, you can say pretty much whatever you want. SEC members certainly touted our conference over the last couple of decades. It's on the SEC to reverse the current narrative.

Hate to say it, but gotta admit I'm kinda excited to see it - I have a very strong feeling Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers are about to be the next Bama like dynasty over the next decade.

The $$$ they have and garnered this offseason is ridiculous.

I see Lane at LSU doing about like he did at Ole Miss. He'll have some good teams but not great and have some "close but no cigar" seasons. In 5 years, he will jump ship to another big name school.

I feel like he jumped ship because LSU showed him they are willing to spend more money than Ole Miss.

His coaching with more money makes me think he'll improve on Ole Miss's success.

I guess we will see, but I feel like we've been hearing for nearly 2 decades how Lane is about to break through as a coach and win it all.

I am not going to hold a title as the only gauge of a good coach.

He may be awesome at LSU and never win a title.

If he doesn't win a title fairly soon at LSU, he won't be there too long. They have opened the checkbook for him in salary and NIL. He has no excuses. The LSU faithful are still basking in what is left of the glow of 2019. They have that "entitled to a championship" mindset Bama fans have.

Underexpanded, as it turns out. Need a bigger TV footprint to get the money up, but in a contiguous way.
I think we've had this dicussion before. IMO, 8 members is an ideal number of members for an athletic conference. It allows each team of each schools to play every conference member in every sport every year whiole allowing room for good non-conference matchups.

It's sad that it's come down to money. ☹️

As with so many good things, we're talking about a ship that has sailed in a world in which the entire seascape has changed.

LSU had 3 different coaches win National Championships since 2000.No other school can make that claim I believe. They have a “reasonable right to expect a coach can win a NC there. One of a small handful of schools where that holds true.

Miami had 5 National Championships from 83-2001 with 4 different coaches.
