Remember, getting fired and leaving on his own accord are not necessarily the same things as he has just 3 years left on his deal.

3 more years of 4th or worse place finishes and he’s not coaching until he’s 67. Not as HC at Iowa, anyway.
That's your opinion, which I don't share.

Because he was told Iowa wasn't interested in him anymore. So he's now looking elsewhere
I… just don’t get it. What is bad with us having him in the room? Hell, he majored the Delbarton kid that Bachmann barely beat… am I missing something? Was it truly the whole not training in Iowa thing?

Again, this is just a story we are all too familiar with. Very disappointing. I’m sure there is more to the story, but this is still disappointing.

Wish him the best and really hope there is another recruit in the wing that made us change our mind…

Tom Brands isn't getting fired.
Again, unless there's some scandal, he'll be in IC for many years.
He's 58/59, so I can see him coaching for another 7-8 years.
Brands' current contract runs through June 30, 2029 at the following salaries:

2026-27 = $750k
2027-28 = $775k
2028-29 = $800k

If Iowa were to terminate said contract at any point between now and then, the University would owe him $500k.

With us not being interested, is there another recruit in the future we were looking at? Specifically in the 2028 class?

Correct. You think he has a lifetime contract. I find that sentiment to be wild. These 4th+ place finishes are already growing old.

Regardless, Beth doesn’t have to fire him in order to end his Iowa tenure within the time period you mentioned.
I don't know how old you are, but for those of us that remember Tom Davis, be careful about getting rid of a good HC unless you have a guaranteed better replacement.

We've had fans throw lots on names around as a possible coaching successor to Brands.
We have ZERO idea who might be even interested.

Yeah…Blue blood programs famously have issues attracting quality coaches.

There’s no such thing as a guarantee in sports. Silly narrative. I am old enough to remember Dr. Tom. I’m also old enough to remember Fran McCaffery.

You don’t hang on to underachieving coaches because you’re afraid what might happen. That’s bad for business.

Beth was at Minnesota. Look where there program is. TnT are not going anywhere. There needs to be change. Iowa is in the 3rd tier of teams right now and not moving up,

Beth didn’t hire Brandon Eggum. He was hired by Mark Coyle. Beth wasn’t even working at Minnesota when Eggum was hired.

Very odd point.

Give us some names of who's available or who's interested.

Beth will have boosters in her ear before she pulls the plug.
There hasn't been any speculation on that.
Iowa wrestling right now is nowhere near the same situation as what happened with Fran.
Not even close.

Yes. Who filled Amatos spot and when?
Amato never had a spot. Check my thread that has our lineup for the next 6 seasons. Tell me which season and weight would Amato have absolutely started and been a massive improvement over the other options

we recruiting like 4 149/157. Some had to go….

Kids get scholly’s pulled all the time. Literally all the time.

The main issue is Tom really doesn’t have the benefit of the doubt from literally anyone, except those super super close to the program.

It’s another PR issue that is festering because Tom doesn’t comment about it. I have no inside information or anything but Iowa wrestling sure does have a lot of PR issues that the insiders state “Tom was in the right.”

That’s either a hell of a coincidence or Tom needs to recruit better character individuals, or the third option is the kids aren’t 100% at fault in all of these scenarios (yes they are kids).

Tom wants to talk about accountability, for everyone but himself. We piss off club coaches,we piss off parents,we act like these kids should worship the ground we walk in.

He has lost his way. His coaching style does not relate to young kids anymore.

It's time. Sooner or later the tickets sold at Carver will force Beths hand, like they did with Mcaffrey.

Stay tuned for MORE drama...it's coming.

IF you're a fan of Iowa - this is much ado about nothing.

Personally, didn't care for Amato due to character/commitment concerns. I was clearly right and Tom got it handled prior to the kid enrolling. This isn't going to damage Iowa as much as the naysayers want to think (really, not at all). Amato's issues aren't exactly unknown in NJ circles.

The only thing that matters now is on mat performance. That will be the only thing that keeps Iowa in the game.

Better character individuals? I’m under the impression that Iowa has VERY explicit character requirements for athletes. Too explicit, in some folks’ opinions, imo.

So, which issue with Amato are the TIT twisters getting wrong? Just curious. Is he the guy who was fighting in the stands awhile back?

There are NJ posters who have made references, though never anything specific. I think that's lame, honestly. Sorry @vhsalum .
All good. Not lame. But the kid has an arrest already. And just like the NJ posters have alluded to, I've heard not-so-good things about his character and work ethic.

Tom clearly found out/recognized something about the kid that he didn't trust. And it's definitely not as simple as Mineo would like to make it out to be. Regan didn't spend a ton of time in Iowa either. But he's in a program that works hard and wrestled at Fargo.

$500K is some serious change. Anyone planning to pass the hat?

Not Beth's fault. She's between a rock and a hard place. Top 5 wrestling coaches are rare.

Now I think there’s an argument to made any issue with the program is exasperated given the perception of the program as if you do a % of good character vs poor character the good character seems to be super high, but man the poor character kids they have recruited and kids they have kicked off the team are just not good looks imo.

One could argue that pulling Amato’s scholarship fits that bill but then you ask how he was awarded that in the first place (unless he started making poor decisions after committing).

I agree with this dub. My money is on this with Amato. There was expectations tied to that commitment. Tom obviously didn't feel like they were being met, so he pulled the scholly. I would be surprised if Amato couldn't earn it back if expectations were met in the future, but he decided to decommit and look elsewhere. Tom said that is your choice and they parted ways. I really think it is as simple as that.
