I never really cared about or watched women's hoops until I saw CC play in college. She's an entertainer. Watching her play is enjoyable, unlike the rest of the WNBA. Clark is a phenomena. Sort of like Bird, Magic & Pistol Pete all combined into one player.
I still don't care about women's hoops but I will watch if I see that she's playing & there's nothing else on.

No, Jabbar was the face, after wilt and jerry, before magic and bird, and so on

The face of the league often = the best player, but not always. Right now the best NBA player is probably Joker, but the face of the league is still LeBron, with Steph right behind him. In the WNBA, just as it’s not really a question that Aja Wilson is the best player, it’s not even a question who the “face” of the league is that it makes takes like the one by Kareem look ridiculous.

Very rarely watch WNBA games, but it seems like the non-basketball issues are sucking up all of the oxygen than the game itself. Maybe because the product itself is meh.

I watched TWO WNBA games last night. No good movies, Dodgers not on, Mets stink, mlb channel game sucked, why not give it a try. Were on Ion channel, #31 for verizon users

Page Bueckers team played first game, switched between that and the mets so missed lits of it. She is terrific, nice all around game.

Fever won at portland by 10 or so, broke open a close game in 3rd q and held off a rally. Triple dub for cc, including a three that would make miles powell smile.

I liked the hoops in both games. They cut to the hoop and got fed with on the money passes. Their bigs play the post, catch entry passes and hit 5 footers. Lots of these players can shoot their asses off. A woman on portland went 7 for 11. Fever is tough, backcourt has 2 20 pointers and they use tge pist smartly, Boston is good.

Not saying I will change my alliances, but I liked the style of play more, they use the whole court.

This league is crazy.

The WNBA has a growing public relations problem that they don’t seem willing or able to address, which is overshadowing the game itself.

Now Royce White and Enes Kanter Freedom are declaring for the WNBA draft…the league is becoming a sideshow joke which is a shame as the quality of play has gotten better.

Rudderless leadership and coaches tripping over themselves unable to answer simple questions in an interview. Painful.

Meanwhile, the most articulate and common sense voice is a sixth-woman with a social media platform that has taken center stage.

Watching the replay I honestly believe she wasn't traying to hurt Cunningham. But with that said you cannot swpie at the ball and hit the head of the oppoent. That's an immediate ejection.

The issue as I see it is her comment about 'white privilege'. The call has absolutely nothing to do with racism and the commissioner has to call her into her office and decide if punishment is deemed.

That comment cannot be swept under the rug.

Carrington was also the player that poked Clarke in the eye last year.

Just googled that

Yes, DiJonai Carrington inadvertently poked Caitlin Clark in the right eye during the first quarter of Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA playoffs on September 22, 2024. Both players later stated that the contact was accidental and not intentional.

Sophie committed the same type of flagrant foul to a player last year. Sophie says she wants all the talk to be about basketbal. However her basketball on court output isn't that good. She is a career 8 pt a game spare player. Likely can have better success as a grifter and pander.

How many biological born males have played in the wnba all time?
There are sports that allow biological males to compete with females. There are basketball league that allow it. It’s not a matter of just the WNBA….thats not what Cunningham’s remarks were directed.

Here is the real issue with WNBA...it is a sports league that is just never about the on court play. The on court play was not the impetus for this post. Everything surrounding the wnba is some sort of drama, culture war, policized pov from the social media police.
The top clubs this season have played high level hoops. Last few weekends the national tv games were very competitive and well played. Golden State having a great season top 3 in the league. Instead its about fairness to CC, Trans issue that is not existent as a viable situation with a player's union member and participation at the league and now the same woman who comes out and says protect young women in sports was a ring girl at a ufc event. Make that make sense.

Caitlin Clark has elevated the profile/exposure of the WNBA just as she did for college BB. Just look at her impact on attendance and ratings. Exponential.

The quality of play in the league has gotten better in the WNBA over the past few years but Clark has attracted more eyeballs to see the product.

Clark and Cunningham are separate issues. With Clark, it’s been about the flagrant fouls and the league’s lack of addressing them. Remember when the NBA tightened up foul calls after Jordan was getting the crap beat out of him (led by the Piston’s). Need to protect the money maker.

Cunningham has used her social media platform to market herself and address a social issue. Her messaging is all positive, fun and now supporting and protecting females in sport…a 90/10% issue. She has never shared her political affiliation, sexual orientation nor mentioned a single political figure (positive or negative), but the 10% is hellbent on doing so. They made the UFC event where she flashed the round sign about political division. She never even mentioned the trans issue is a problem in the WNBA. She expressed her opinion as it relates to trans in girl sports. It really wasn’t that big an issue until the two young girls showed up at a game with a “thank you” sign that things spun out of control because of the idiotic owner and some extreme fan reactions.

Why all this talk about transgenders? There is no such thing as a transgender, just like a unicorn. There are 2 genders and you can't change your birth gender.

The rest is silly agenda-driven mental health noise.
My pov, 2 sexes.

But some people do identify as the other sex. Guys I knew all my life were gay, and quiet about it till later in life when society grew up a little. Then they came out, some were no surprise, one or 2 were kinda shocking. I assume I knew trans people too, but I dont know any who have come out. But regardless of what sex you identify with, you should play sports against your birth gender.

A women in my town once told me to make sure that whatever jerk invited the black kids (called them N words) to open court games in the town gym didnt do it again. I was that jerk, that was around 1971. That woman is nothing like the person who said that, she grew past the small town provincial thinking that was common where we lived, hell, racist thinking lived in most of our households. My nieces visiting me in Greenwich Village a decade later were shocked to see gay guys on Bleecker Street, and they grew up to be amazed they ever could think that way. Society takes time .

And yes, trans is different than black or gay, less obviously defined. But I think there are trans persons. I think the "they" thing is dopey, make up a new word, like feminists using Ms. And my kids laugh when I say that cause the world they live in has changed

Have any mediocre women athletes in college entered any mens events and dominated? I think people have the right to be who they are. But I dont think they can choose the sex of their sporting events. Nature has chosen that already.

Keep it up Sophie.

Riley Gaines is not a politician. She supports protecting young women in the locker room. Are you saying she can’t take a picture with someone who may have a political affiliation?

She is supporting the one and the same stance Riley Gaines does.
