Puck's John Ourand details the pitch Tim Brosnan made to the Big East as he is set to be officially named commissioner in the days to come. "I heard that he sold the conference on a vision of increased commercial viability, despite its football Achilles' heel, through a deepening relationship with Fox Sports, it's main television partner, and various sponsors. (At MLB Brosnan negotiated a number of media deals with Fox.) I'm also told that Brosnan impressed the hiring committee with his vision of transforming the the Big East Tournament from a mini NIT into a full blown eventized event. In this regard, Brosnan leverage a broader discourse that the event, held annually in Madison Garden, underutilized - especially now that St John's has been resuscitated, Villanova may have gotten its groove back after Kevin Willard slinked back away from my Terps, and UConn is arguably the best program in the country."

Transforming the the Big East Tournament successfully into a full blown event would be great. And by successfully I mean not only doing it but doing it whereby it's greatly promoted, greatly attended, and gets great media coverage preferably nationwide.

On the Trove sobo1 noted....

I would imagine that to mean hosting some type of fan fest events, brunches with Big East legends, headline musical acts, etc.

Something like what you experience at the Final Four but on a smaller scale. The Final Four is an *event* that stretches well, well, well beyond the games. The games are almost a footnote.

Yes but I'm talking about the "eventized" portion.

The game are always most important, they are never almost a footnote. Especially the Final Four.
Use this past year as an example. That final had as much juice as any BE final in a long, long time. It definitely could have been “eventized” more than the alumni events that I’m sure took place.

Agree that the games happening were obvious if you were around MSG but there really weren't any efforts to grab attention beyond the games.
