So schools will be entering the transfer portal yearly now too if this passes. Awesome

No what it’s saying is there will be a 6 month period of conference realignment if this thing passes. I’ve been assuming it’ll eventually just be two giant conferences (the SEC and Big Ten like the AFC and NFC) with subdivisions therein like the NFL so this 6 month window would be the opportunity.

Yea so teams will have to show their intentions or be stuck. Also 19 team cap which really means 18 cuz no one is going to want an odd number of teams id assume.

I get a kick out of it being called the Protect Sports Act while a handful of schools play the part of the hooker Dave Chappelle screamed at to run for her life while he's in the car with Wayne Brady. Protecting sports means a further watering down or collapse of more traditional leagues.

This is dead, at least for this session. You knew it was dead the moment all these amendments started getting tacked on. Not enough time. This just lets them claim the clock ran out.

The real answer is the NCAA needs to be allowed to die and the sec and big ten form another league to save college sports.

Damn. Even the schools be transferring.

Can we transfer in football to the Big 12 or ACC for a shot at playing in the conference title game?

Only in the first year of the passing of the bill I believe. 180 days portal when it’s passed basically if a school wants to move. I’d assume they would still be bound by contract payments though.

Lol, if you think the SEC and Big Ten teaming up is "collegiate sports, I don't know what to tell you. Unless you think Chariot racing will save Formula 1.

The point of me posting this was to point out the amendments that got tacked on. They obviously did it for the likes of Florida State, who has been long rumored to be on the way out of the ACC. I know their buyout situation and all that, but this window is probably going to force their hand.

Who the other team will be that joins...who knows. That horse has been beaten into the ground, not really interested in hearing about all that anymore.

Leagues are capped at 19 teams, and I don't really see why anyone would want that odd number so I assume we'd go with 18.

Anyway, really, the point of the thread is to point out the obvious....they added the 180 day amendment window for a reason....because someone has been letting them know behind the scenes. They won't pass it without it.

So.....more conference shakeup shenanigans incoming if the Act is invariably passed.

It will never really go back to the way it was, but to improve anything the ncaa must be allowed to die. That means this legislation needs to save it needs to die too. Its been mismanaged all the way from creation (it was created in such a foolish way that made it vulnerable to these state actions, but that's a long explanation) and got worse as it went.

Without the ncaa, those two conferences are the only ones with enough weight to get a reasonable version of college athletics hammered out. Everyone else is just a passenger in their car.

Been saying for a while now a new sports league will inevitably form. BCS will become its own professional entity.

It will be about 40-50 teams split between two conferences.

That’s the easy and obvious.

What everyone else does I think is more interesting and complicated.

There may be 25-30 teams with enough brand power, money, fan bases, ability to get some TV time and sponsor money.

Could even be a little mingling between those two top leagues. Perhaps even relegation like in euro Soccer.

After about two new “Pro” leagues it drops off. I think everyone else will have to retreat back to a more traditional college “amateur” set up.
