Prob 9-3 but should be at least 10-2. I guess it depends on QB.

With this schedule if Kirk can't get to 10-2 and into the CFP, then I don't think he ever will. If that's the case, we need to move on from this staff sooner than later.

That does look like a pretty light schedule at first glance. Definitely feels like we should be 10-2 or 9-3 but we are replacing so much. Our D-line and linebackers are pretty much all brand new and then the qb... I am going to have to go with a classic 8-4 season and losing a mediocre bowl game this year in what will feel like a missed opportunity by the end of the season.

We will probably beat Michigan and then lose to Minnesota or Purdue or something stupid.

I will go with the 4 losses being OSU, Washington, Minnesota and Illinois.

That's pretty optimistic on the FSU side.
I think the culture is broken at the football side.

I could see anything from 7-5 to 10-2. I think we steal one from the murderers row to start the B1G portion of the schedule and we will probably lose to someone we should not. I have us at 9-3 although there is a lot of my heart in that prediction. My head says 8-4 is more likely.

Still gotta go with the heart so: 9-3

As an Iowa fan, are you guys delusional like us Florida fans (FL in the state sense) that you should be in the "hunt" every year or are 8-4/9-3 seasons a healthy expectation and acceptable?

I know that's harder these days since the non-playoff bowls are meaningless, but just curious. Heck, I can't imagine being a Rutgers or Fresno State Fan. Ooof.

I think Iowa fans tend to be pretty realistic about football. It’s probably a function of the level of consistency. Year in and year out we are usually hovering around 8 wins, sometimes we spike higher. We don’t go lower that often and it has been many years since we had a losing season. You can usually peg us to end a season ranked somewhere between 15-30 with an average bowl game appearance.

Now with our elite 8 basketball appearance last season I could see fans getting a little more over the top, but haven’t seen much of that yet. We are big game hunting point guards for 2027+ at the moment, if we land a 5* then many of us (probably me included) will be having final four dreams.

I think Iowa fans are very realistic, as one of the previous posters said with his prediction of 8-4. That just seems like a very common prediction for Hawk fans. Most of us are longing for just that one playoff appearance before we die. Like typical Hawkeye fashion it would probably be a road game at Clemson/FSU or Bama type situation and we would possibly get embarrassed. Look at 2015. We were one play away from heading to Tuscaloosa and we probably would have been 'woodshedded' the same as Sparty did.

I'm hoping for that one year where everything falls right. We are in a position to host a game in Kinnick in December. It would be glorious.

With all that said I'm predicting 8-4/9-3. Really sticking my neck out there. LOL

There is nothing on this planet that would keep me from Kinnick in that scenario. It would indeed be glorious.
Two years ago my mom purchased tickets for all of her kids and grandkids for Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She was looking at dates and she was not too happy when I said in August. I know this is a long shot but if Iowa makes the playoffs there will be no chance I skip that for a concert at the Mark.

She kind of understands my Hawkeye fanatical tendencies. But still not completely. I'm with you and would not miss a playoff game in Kinnick under any circumstances.

If you don't mind me asking traveler. Where do you tailgate? I'm in the dental lot. No more Swarm tailgates but maybe we can find a time our paths can meet for a beverage this fall if you are ever in my neck of the woods.

I think 6-6 is a reasonable expectation. We might even pull one out from SMU, Louisville or Florida and finish 7-5. Sadly, this is our baseline.

We are football ticket poors and hang out at Hancher. I don’t get to every game anymore but will be there for at least 2 this season. Would gladly share a beer or three with you If schedules permit.

This is why we hate Nebraska.

Iowa is built on consistency.
Awful year- 5 or less wins
Bad year - 6 wins
Below average but meh - 7 wins
Average and okay with it - 8 wins
Good year - 9 wins
Great year - 10 wins
Memorable - 11+ wins and CFP/NY6/BCS

Nebraska dogs us for this stuff all the time and thumb their noses at us for being a solid, but not elite, program. They believe in their heart of hearts they are right there with the best and 8 wins is unacceptable... except they haven't done that in quite some time. Certainly has to be around 15 years, no?

Point being that we are realists but chase and hope for glory. It's quite painful.

Prediction?

Iowa - 9-3 - losses to OSU, at Wash, and the usual self-inflicted stumble - I’ll go at IL this year.

For FSU, there are 5 games in which I'm relatively confident of the outcome (wins against NMS, CA, BC, losses against Bama and UM. There are seven that I view somewhat as toss-ups...if we don't turn it over a bunch or commit a ton of penalties, we likely win; if we do those things, we likely lose. We're due for some lucky bounces on plays that determine who wins those kind of games. If things go our way, we could certainly go 8-4. We could also easily go 4-8.

I could very easily see them losing them losing any or all of the Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska games as well.
Realistically, I think it’s going to be a 7-5 season, especially without a proven quarterback.

Iowa will go 9-3. It will be another year of "they played their guts out but we were a couple pieces short".

Also, we are running on history as the team who beats the contenders once in a blue moon. We need to do it this year atleast once.

Love what they bring, love the program.

For my fellow Noles fans who are so negative, is it fatigue from the last couple of down seasons? Dislike of Norvell? Down on the level of talent due to poor recruiting?

I'm slightly hopeful (maybe foolishly so, we'll see), because I think our roster is a little better than last year was, and I look at last year as underperforming...not by much, but they should've been at a minimum .500 and probably/easily could have been 7-5 or 8-4.
QB is probably comparable to last year. I think Daniels will be as good overall as TC (not as good as TC when he was on, but better than TC was for a month+ after spraining his ankle in the 3rd game. Backup should be better.
RB should be better; Ous and Singleton should both improve, and Wisner is better than the guy who transferred in from OK.
OL probably a wash.
WR should be better & can't really go backwards. TE should be a wash.
Overall, the offense was ok last year and should be better this year.
D-line should be as good, probably better. LB should be better, secondary probably a wash. Overall on D, it will depend on the DL - if they can handle the run and generate some pass rush, the D should be good enough to where we are competitive with most of the teams on our roster. Probably only two or three teams that have a clear talent edge on us (um, Bama, maybe Clemson & uf)

Yes on all 3. Also a bit of the fool menace, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I have heard good things about our run game but I do not trust our Defense and am skeptical on QB. DJU and Tommy had some success for one year in college football. Daniels has never. His seasons have all been meh and he literally was second string last year…

Iowa - 10-2

  • 9/5 – Northern Illinois at Iowa - W
  • 9/12 – Iowa State at Iowa - W
  • 9/19 – UNI at Iowa - W
  • 9/26 – Iowa at Michigan - W
  • 10/3 – Ohio State at Iowa - L
  • 10/9 – Iowa at Washington - L
  • 10/24 – Iowa at Minnesota - W (Iowa always wins against Minn)
  • 10/31 – Wisconsin at Iowa - W
  • 11/7 – Iowa at Northwestern - W (but this is the every year crap game but Iowa pulls it off like against MSU last year)
  • 11/14 – Purdue at Iowa - W
  • 11/21 – Iowa at Illinois - W (another tough game but Iowa is pulling it together late)
  • 11/27 – Nebraska at Iowa - W (Iowa owns Nebby)
Special type year and the Ohio State loss and the Washington loss go down to the wire but Iowa lost a great kicker (Drew Stevens who is now the starting kicker for the Commanders this year).

Iowa finally has some legit pass catchers this year in Reece Vander Zee, DJ Vonnahme, Evan James and Tony Diaz who will all get drafted at some point, but the latter two are very young sophomores. QB gun slinger out of Georgia is going to turn some heads. Defense takes a step back but by the end of the year is humming due to tons of talent but young. Sort of ends up close to what last year was but they don't lose against an ISU early and crack a couple of top teams in the season getting over the hump (Michigan and at Illinois).

Ooof.
Iowa Fans default to 8-4 now.
It used to be 7-4/5 but we have realized we're are far more consistent than that.

Honestly, I would personally think our default should be 9-4 almost 10-3 when including the bowl game.
