You drinking Old Fashioneds between pickleball games? Pretty hard core right there sirLooking at the website, it appears that the bar serves beer and seltzers only. They better change that. Older folks want liquor
As a spectator only, I assure youYou drinking Old Fashioneds between pickleball games? Pretty hard core right there sir
I thought it was more a hybrid of tennis and ping pong. Essentially tennis for the elderly.Thread hijack:
Why will pickleball be different from racquet ball?
I think it has an advantage in that it's a lot easier to convert an old retail or warehouse space or even movie theatre place into pickleball courts, but what will make it have staying power that racquet ball did not? Similarity to tennis? Less taxing on knees so friendlier to old people?

As someone somewhat elderly who spends an inordinate amount of time in RV parks, I can’t tell you the number of people I know or that I’ve met who have torn their knees up playing pickle ball. A lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s the first sport they’ve played in 40 years but still. I think an orthopedic surgeon invented the game.I thought it was more a hybrid of tennis and ping pong. Essentially tennis for the elderly.
I think more access helps it a lot. You can now find PB courts all over the place, including plenty of public places. You couldn’t do that with RB. It’s fun as hell and a much better workout for doubles than tennis doubles. After playing it for a while now, I realize how much standing around there is in doubles tennis.Thread hijack:

I fall into that "somewhat elderly" category as well. all of my friends have tried to convince me to play pickleball and despite being very active, I just say no. Made it this far with knee's intact, not gonna risk it at this point. As someone somewhat elderly who spends an inordinate amount of time in RV parks, I can’t tell you the number of people I know or that I’ve met who have torn their knees up playing pickle ball. Top Golf in Ridgeland has been busy every time, I've been there. May be a one off since it's not been there too long. My wife, a non golfer loves to go, so it's something else we can do together with friends and family. They just announced a Dave and Buster's to be built near it so I am anxious to see if they complement each other or compete.I kinda think pickle ball may have hit its peak.
Had a good run but I don’t see it sustaining itself.
Same thing with Top Golf.
14 years ago, it was the hottest new concept going. Not sure I’ve been to a Top Golf in 6 years and I used to really enjoy going.
I think Top Golf is still great. The problem is that if you want it to be about more than golf, and wrap a restaurant and bar bill in with the golf experience, you really need a large population to support that. Just not many people that are going to spend that kind of money regularly so you need a big population to draw from and/or a good bit of tourist traffic for people that don't get to do it at home.I kinda think pickle ball may have hit its peak.

PB may have plateu’d in interest but you cannot compare it to Top Golf. Top Golf is a business and has to make a profit or it goes away. But mostly ,it’s a concept that only entertains most people one or two times Since it’s an existing sport in a different, gimmick format. That’s its real issues in my opinion.I kinda think pickle ball may have hit its peak.

Stagger Inn Starkville had "Top Golf Swing Suites" inside it when they opened their location on Collegeview Dr down from the Hump and it didn't last a year I don't think and that's w/ a building full of college students in apartments above their location. It looks like a catch all now for everything they need to store and don't have storage space for, just a bunch of junk stacked around in it.Would a top golf with a small bar and a limited bar menu be able to make it mainly off the hourly rental for the bay? Because the hourly rentals are pretty cheap for what you get, and I would do that regularly. But with the waiter/waitress hovering over you, and then the question of tipping, that just makes it unenjoyable unless I am already wanting to have food and drinks.
The swing suites are fine, but that's a lot different from an actual top golf where you get to see your ball flight. Not sure how much that is just a personal preference of mine versus a common sentiment. Of course, they should be super cheap compared to an actual top golf.Stagger Inn Starkville had "Top Golf Swing Suites" inside it when they opened their location on Collegeview Dr down from the Hump and it didn't last a year I don't think and that's w/ a building full of college students in apartments above their location. I have one 2 miles from my house and give it zero thoughts.I kinda think pickle ball may have hit its peak.

Seems to be a trend, the D&B and Top Golf in PCB are close to each other.Top Golf in Ridgeland has been busy every time, I've been there. May be a one off since it's not been there too long.
