I'm certainly no coach but it seems to me Lexi needs to try to stop the ball more than just focusing on stopping the player, if that makes sense.

It seems like often she gets into good guarding position but takes a tiny step or leans a little and makes contact and gets a foul. Imo, if her hands were a little more active she could really be a pest. Instead she's a foul magnet.

Yessir, it was definitely a no-go. However, why in the world would you iso Clark on Wilson like that with the slimmest of leads? Wilson v Clark is a huge mismatch height wise, and throw in the reach factor as well, what was White thinking? Wasted time on the shot clock, and worse, the steal and winning shot on the other end. My point is that there was no movement by anyone as the play developed until Timpson finally made a cut to the rim, but it was too late. SW, you had a timeout left. When Wilson picked up Clark, why didn't you use it???

White OR Caitlin should have taken a timeout once she got stuck. Shot clock was low and Caitlin took a timeout earlier in the game when she got stuck.

Caitlin is an incredible player, but has to find a way to cut down on turnovers.... Yes she will have more due to the aggressive style she plays, but in that last play....that isn't due to an aggressive pass, that was sloppy.

Oh for F sake - great players sometimes have crappy games. It happens. And if she doesn't come back from it then she really wasn't all that great. She'll be just fine.
I don’t mean she won’t recover ever. She’s had mediocre genes before. It was the abysmal clutch play that was a bit startling and, as far as I recall, nothing I’ve seen to that level. The collapse in the 2’nd we and the 4q FTs and OT turnover were really shocking. Especially how casually and sloppily she was. And just odd decision making.

The question is during the next clutch moment, especially against the best teams, how will she respond?

I guess that's the way it has to be. Clark will have to make coaching decisions in the absence of having a Head Coach. Need a timeout? OK, take it, Clark. How can people defend White? I mean, how? Why not replace White? Why not???? :D

CC made the huge mistake of picking up her dribble. When she saw Wilson coming to defend her and basically pin her in the corner, she should have immediately dribbled out of there. Another huge CC mistake was jacking up a 3-ball (a miss) early in the possession with 50 seconds left in regulation and the Fever with a lead. She should have run clock in that instance.

I agree. Just dribble out that bad boy!

It is amazing that 2 of the best scorers in the history of women's basketball struggle to attack the basket with their off hand.

CC at least gets in position on the left to user her right as much as possible, whereas KM sometimes just lets the ball float from her hands and watches to see what happens.
I said that in the game thread. There wrre times where it looked like Mitchell either closed her eyes and just tried to shoot the ball in the general direction of the hoop, or because she's so short, was afraid to keep her head facing the basket and had to "guess" where the hoop was...................

But hey at least she's doing a better job, this year, of not blowing layups by her simply not taking into account how short she is...............so we got that going for us and what not. 😃

That was a great matchup for the Fever....a post on a top 11 guard in the league on the perimeter favors the guard every. single. time. and that is why CC wanted the clear out.

An all star team of male 8 graders would destroy a wnba team.

I will watch less after last night. It’s pathetic to miss three out of four free throws and choke all over the place like that. You can’t take the product seriously when they just go full blown 5th grade basketball skills and basketball IQ.
Ya know people keep saying this, but I also often wonder how much they actually understand what kind of athletes they're talking about, on both sides...........

And yes that includes your hypothetical scenario of THE ABSOLUTE BEST (and tallest) 8th graders in the country.

Basketball is not soccer.

Crazy how the potential CC narrative got flipped on its head in a very short time. After the two late threes and a steal for two points it could have been said she struggled some but came up CLUTCH late. Make just one free throw and still clutch. But instead we have the CHOKE that it was. That's gotta sting.
The anti-CC fans got their wish fulfillment last night.

Sadly, I don't see Clark recovering from this to become the player her fans want her to be. It's just not who she is anymore. Not after what I watched last night.

Someone like me lose on the money line tonight?
Nah, that was because of all the social media f*** tards that got what they wanted last night.

I always bet against my favorite teams because they often find ways to let me down, so there's no point in not profiting from their failures when they do f*** up.

Usually that means I lose money in the long run 😉, but it's nice to have a little temporary spending cash after say Iowa pisses their pants against Iowa State, as opposed to being left with nothing while the f*** tards from Iowa State get to gloat about winning for the next 364 days.

Not to dismiss Caitlin's ineptitude last night but it's frustrating how late Wilson gets both a favorable whistle and favorable non-whistle and in both cases Caitlin's on the wrong end of it.

Yes it was an atrocious pass by Caitlin but she did not flop in the fight for the ball with Wilson, A'ja clearly shoved her to the floor. No whistle.

Earlier Wilson crashes into Caitlin and Caitlin is deemed to have hip checked her, lol. Whistle on Caitlin.

Just added frustration on top of Caitlin's and the Fever's frustrating play.
In all fairness, and I tend to agree with what you said, any other 2 players involved in that final sequence and nobody really makes an outrage at the play-on/no-call nature of the play.

People are always saying two different things at the same time on these final play sequences. "Let them play!" "Call the foul!" depending on who they root for.

Typically most agree that letting the players play is better than having an extremely tight, and itchy trigger finger whistle late in the game, but I've always been of the mind set that you enforce the rules of the game start to finish.

With that said, I wasn't upset about the no-call.

I want to say that's the first time in her post-high school career that her sloppy and reckless play cost her team a close game.

Maybe (probably not) this will serve as a wakeup call...........we'll see. 🤔

If you thought the anti-clark fans were rough after the game last night, imagine what they would be like if A'ja tips the ball and then called for a foul on Clark, and Clark gets free throws.

Now that seems a little fatalistic to me. I'm hoping she's pissed off AF and maybe that steels her resolve to tighten her game up 🤷‍♂️. Otoh, maybe this does bruise her confidence going forward, who knows?

See you in a year or two.
White isn't going anywhere. Last night was not her fault. She was not to blame for Mitchell missing one to win the game and then CC missing 2 and then turning the ball over which lead to a runout and open 3. Or Hull having no idea where the Hell the ball was when she was put in the game for defensive purposes.

Basketball is not soccer.
Wouldn’t be difficult to find 8th graders that are taller, faster, stronger, and can dunk.

It would be total destruction.

I think the disparity would be much greater than it was in the soccer game.

there are videos of AAU camps of 8th graders elevating going between the legs and dunking.

This exactly. How often do you see a team screen to get a big against a pt guard? That's a matchup your all star pt guard has to take advantage of. There is absolutely no reason she should have had to call a time out.

I think that it's worth pointing out that the Head Coach is responsible for whatever occurs on the court. Good or bad. In White's case, for a HC to almost never take accountability for missteps during a game, and instead, sit idly by while her players do take accountability post-game, is an indicator of her inability to perform her duties in a professional manner. Why put the ball in Clark's hands, while your fastest player stands idle at the top of the key? I'm not discounting the fact that Clark smoked clutch FTs, committed a slew of turnovers, or criticizing Hull for sleepwalking, or even blaming KM for missing a key FT. I'm simply pointing out the fact that Stephanie White is the Doug Christie of the WNBA. Both were really solid players. Neither of them has proven the ability to be a Head Coach.

We don’t know if she was told to faceguard there. If she was then that’s not on her. She would have been doing her job. That happens a lot when defense is playing “no catch” on a player.

I missed it , was at pickleball league night for nerds, they had football on, which is fine with me.

got to see all the hoopla , pun intended, later. come on?? mythical racism, fans booted, aces are just better, CC choke job. I watched the press conference and CC looked like she was having a mental breakdown, rubbing her forehead and beating her head on the mic. CC flopped at the end, went airborne, probably was chunked in the air. no foul. this thing looked like a tank job or it was scripted. if somebody is getting paid to tank this thing, I would not be shocked.
