I haven’t looked for Weller in a while. Last bottle I bought was Antique and it was under $40, so it was a long time ago.
Unless things have really changed, finding Weller 12 and Weller FP ain’t common.
That price on the Willet fancy bottle (my name for it) is outrageous. That may be what it’s bringing now, but there’s no way I’d be interested at that price.

One hundred percent correct.
It's a good selection. And $80 for a Weller 12 is worth it to buy a bottle or two to share with guests. But man, personally I'm knocking out cheap shìt and loving it these days.
Gimme some Early Times BIB, JTS Brown BIB, JW Dant BiB or Evan Williams BIB for my personal sipping whiskey. It won't wow anybody that's drinking based on social media clicks, but damn fine bourbon for under $30 a liter pretty much anywhere you can find it...
Put it like this, for the Landman TV show fans:
If Billy Bob Thornton comes over you pour him a glass of the Weller 12. If Sam Elliot comes over you pour him the Early Times BIB. If Ali Larter comes over, you break out the Willet and hope that bottle goes in a hole somewhere when you're done with it ... Even if it's yours. We ain't judging.

Weller 12 for $80 is 100% yes. I like the Antique 107 and would probably buy a couple but that’s higher than I’d like. Don’t have experience with Full Proof. You can see that over/under pricing playing out by how many are on the shelf.
In Washington, I’d get Weller Reserve and 107 in the grocery for $35 and $45, but it was very rare to see them. Blanton’s was always there for $65 or so, and Stagg Jr, EH Taylor, and Elmer Lee were there a few times per year for $65-85.
If I went to a liquor store in Washington, the nicer Weller’s were always there, but they priced them at $300-600, so I never bought any

That Willett sucks. That was one of the bottles that wouldn't even sell during Covid.
The Weller is soild. I like 107 more than Full Proof. Most people don't know it, but 107 and Full Proof are the EXACT same juice. The 107 just gets watered down to 107 proof while Full Proof is at 114.

Absolutely right. There are a lot of good bourbons under 30. EW BIB is hard to beat at the price. I haven’t had one ever that’s worth over about 120 to me. Scotch on the other hand is a little different.
I don't know about all that howty towty nose, palate, and finish mumbo jumbo....but this one got me through the tough times.
Weller for sure is good bourbon. Elijah Craig is good for the money. Willet is just ok to me, but a very cool looking bottle. I have a Willet bottle made into a lamp.
I've been making old fashioneds with rum lately. You can get a handle of Mount Gay Eclipse for $35, and it makes a better old fashioned than most whiskeys. 've also been making them with Probitas, Doorly's 12 Year, Planteray, and El Dorado 12 Year. The El Dorado makes a better old fashioned then any whiskey I've ever tried.

I used to spend hundreds of dollars a month on "good" bourbon but lately I've found that $21 Members Mark is also just fine for my pallet.

I got on a bit of a rum kick a few years ago. Fascinating history. Once you figure out how to steer clear of the badly adulterated ones that are ubiquitous you can find some nice ones to enjoy.
In case anybody’s looking for it, it’s actually Mount Gay Eclipse (to correct the typo) and I agree it’s a great one to use as your daily.

Same here, never tasted vanilla, berries or honeysuckle in bourbon in my life. It either tastes good, or it doesn't
If you remove the cork would that be considered circumsising the bottle?
Mount Gay became my rum of choice after we went to the distillery on an excursion. I’ll try other stuff but always come back.
I prefer Chattanooga whiskey. I go there when the stock their founders. Some of the Total Wine and Spirits in nearby states stock their founders. joe t’s has their 93 and 111 proof in stock
I've been making my old fashioneds with the addition of banana liquor (provides a sweetness and you can adjust the simple syrup accordingly) and black walnut bitters. Not necessarily an everyday old fashioned but a nice twist to change things up
If Mt. Gay is your daily driver, I would highly recommend $35+ Barbados rums like El Dorado 12 Year ($40), Doorly's 12 Year ($30-Total Wine exclusive), Planteray 5 Year ($40), Bumbu XO ($35), or anything by Foursquare. Barbados rum is the best value in spirits right now as far as I'm concerned.
My favorite Old Fashioned recipe.
3 oz bourbon or Rye
Pour whiskey in single or double old fashioned glass.

Sounds really good, I love my “Woodford Reserve Master Collection” 120 Proof or above. I know this is isn’t burboun but also really like “Don Julio 1942” it’s some top notch stuff
I fillup my 40 oz steel tumbler with ice. Double shot of my Bourbon and a can of Diet Mountain Dew. That's my Old Fashion.
Zaya out of Guatemala is probably my favorite. It used to be $50-$60 a bottle but lately I’ve been finding it in the $35-$40 range.

FWIW, if you’re unaware, the bottle is modeled after a traditional copper pot still used to distill whiskey.
Evan Williams does not get the credit it deserves to be a perfect house bourbon. it's what i stock for my "everyday" drinking needs, tastes great with any mixer and is good on the rocks.
