Playoffs should be 8 classes of Public Schools and 4 classes of private, separated and let them recruit and do whatever they want. Distance, out of state, tuition fees, etc..

most private school football players are not paying full tuition and nothing will be done until all schools are foia, which will never happen with private schools.
They all are not paying full tuitions but someone is paying on their behalf. These schools aren't saying come on in you don't have to pay, we'll eat the expense....someone is making up what they don't. And that's fine. I can give the Edgy Tim Message Board scholarship and fund it however I see fit and tell the schools to give it to whoever I tell them too but at the end of the year every students yearly fee will be covered by with the family paying, State Financial Aid or privately funded scholarships. Schools would close without it

Bottom line is this thread will shortly spin out of control and be deleted. Don't like the current system? Don't like schools recruiting? Change it. Put up separating public/Catholic on a member wide ballot....vote and be done with it forever. Live by the decision or leave the IHSA. Simple. Most important info from this story? Expect the 30 mile rule to be up for a change (and here is a clue it's not going to increase) sooner rather than later.
But what if a big % your radius is under water in Lake Michigan 😂.

Id be fine with a split, I've said this before. I don't want it but I'd be fine with it because the haters that hate on the CCL is just too much. They'll miss us when we are gone. I would do a complete split and that includes Non Conference games, unfortunately that would include ESL who doesn't complain at all but is collateral damage. Again I don't want it but it seems like I'm the minority.

And if Football leaves, all sports leave, Basketball, Baseball, Wrestling, Soccer, Boys and Girls sports too...bye bye McAuley and Marist Volleyball

You now have coaches actively recruiting off other teams' rosters with zero repercussions even when it's turned into school administrations. It crazy to me how people are so desperate to win that they will look at a 16-year-old kid that has gone to their camps for years and done everything they have asked of him only to think "we need to get a 1-year rental player next year to replace him."
Not even sure anymore what the eligibility rules are for transfers. It does seem as if anything goes. If coaches are actively recruiting off other teams’ rosters, there is a definite problem.

And I hear ya on the guy who is getting bumped by a transfer. Not exactly the most reputable way to run a football program.

Yes you can but you cannot compete in sports.
I don't get it. Why not? Your paying to go there why can't you participate in sports? Can you play in the chess club? Can you join the school play? Yearbook? Is it just school and go home? Honestly asking and I know there aren't many who do it but I don't get the sports ban especially if your paying? It's like going to Wisconsin Dells, you can stay at the resort but you can't use the waterslides.

I don't know if it is the same sign, but I saw a similar sign on one of the side streets, Chicago side, North East of Higgins and Canfield.
For a long time there have been a lot of Main South Hawks in the Taft attendance area. I'm guessing the problem is those same kids are now heading to private schools?

You can if you score 25ppg 😂. In all seriousness the amount of loop holes there is now to attend the CPS school of your choice is about as long as the 30 mile radius. Yes the selective enrollment schools like Whitney Young, Payton and others you have to test into but there is also so many schools designated as alternative schools, Military schools that the boundaries do not exist. Phillips and Simeon don't have boundaries due to their classifications and while you may have to meet a requirement to enter those schools, like many private or suburban public schools, if you want a specific student it's not really hard to get them into the school.

I do know Kenwood did get caught doing something a couple years ago in basketball that made most their team ineligible but what length they went to I don't know but I do know jumping from one CPS school to the next is pretty commonly done.
They had players using fake addresses that actually lived in the suburbs. Kenwood is a neighborhood school with a large magnet/honors component so you either have to live in the very tiny Kenwood neighborhood or test very well. Kenwood also has an issue with kids faking addresses to get into the general student population..so its more than an athletics thing with them. Just a highly desired school.

Cant speak on Phillips or Simeon as much, but you cant just walk into those schools.

The Military academies can barely field teams.

Whitney Young actually gets penalized because they DONT have boundaries. They are a 7A school made to play 8A in the playoffs, when they actually have less of a talent pool to choose from because of the super high test scores required to get in. Im guess Payton has to play up too. Lane is already 8A.

Are you aware that to go to any CPS school outside of your assigned neighborhood school you need to test, that school needs to have an open seat, you need to apply, and be selected?

You can't just walk into any CPS school you want on day 1.

Truth. Are there selective enrollment schools that enroll kids from all over the city? Yes. Can anyone attend? No. If kids could enroll in any school, some of my favorite football matchups (Bogan vs Collins anyone??) wouldn't exist anymore. The CPL hate is strong.

Because it's HIGH SCHOOL. If you're transferring out of the district or 30 mile radius of the school you should be going to it should be related to some educational reason, not a schools extracurriculars.

Look, you'll be hard pressed to find a bigger football fan than me, but when it comes down to it we're talking about high school and 14-18 year old children.

For the vast majority of sports related transfers I think it should be a requirement for all adult parties involved to go through a psych evaluation because they are the biggest issue. I mean in recent years we've seen it clog up the courts due to where a kid can wrestle.

The IHSA is turning more and more into the NCAA where they turn a blind eye to anything and everything until their hand is absolutely forced.

If a certain athlete wants to attend a CPL school that is selective, alternative, or for argument sake Military, odds of that athlete getting into that school is very good. I've know many athletes that left MC that didn't live anywhere near Phillips that ended up at Phillips and was told that they are an alternative school and boundaries didn't matter....there is a student at Simeon that lives very close to me and he lives 3 blocks
from Morgan Park. Again was told that Simeon doesn't have boundaries because it was classified as a alternative school. Again Im hearing things second and third hand, you have a good grip on the CPS, can you indulge. Because it seems like they can move around pretty easily now

For the selective enrollment schools...you have to test very high. Period. That eliminates 95% of students.

Kenwood MIGHT have more wiggle room than Young or Lane, but way less than Simeon and MP.

Other schools...theres probably more flexibility to get you in. Which is probably why Simeon is good at sports every year. No shade...but parents that care about academics at all wouldnt send their child to Phillips. Why a kid goes from MC to Phillips is beyond me, and makes me wonder how they got into MC.

This is about football, of course. Basketball is a different animal.

I agree 100% someone is paying it, private schools are good and are needed in my opinion. Never going to have a clear solution but separating the playoffs would be a start. I like the 6 class idea and 2/3 private classes

The main problem is the IHSA does no enforcement, in states like Texas, Georgia and Florida they do and are willing to pull eligibility, so they really don't have a problem. I always wonder how many of these kids' jumping schools or letting sport decisions dictate things will regret it in 10 years.

McCallister built a winning program there and Philips didn't require the educational or disciplinary requirements MC did so they went there. Most parents tell their kids in that situation that discipline is good for you and you need your education so study harder....some are the complete opposite. Used to be about get me a College ride, now it's like get me a College payday and which school will best provide us with the chances for that payday education and discipline be damned. Again not all, but some, and it's trending upward.

100% agree. Schools in illinois, public or private have no fear in terms of sports transfers because it's not policed and would require someone telling on them or self reporting for anything to happen.

Most in 10 years will say "It wasn't my decision it was my parents" and most of them would be right.
Many parents are very delusional to their child's abilities.

This is just not true, Georgia was just told this spring to take a seat in a transfer case by the courts. My oldest lives in Austin and the transfer season in Texas is as big or bigger than Chicagoland because of size and the religion of football in Texas. Florida is no stranger to the transfer portal. Add to those PA, Ohio, NewJersey, Michigan, Tennessee etc… and everyone sees similar movement. Keep adults out of the equation and things probably go much smoother. Just to set the bar, football is a Capitalist sport which means the big brands are the big winners, but there are opportunities for up and coming brands vs the idea of everyone gets a trophy and the same outcome.

I would be curious to know what the annual operating costs are for MC in relation to what they bring in on an annual basis. You say it's tough to keep the doors open but they have a 10 year goal of having a $50 million endowment with an annual goal of $3 million for scholarships and aid packages alone.

In terms of football specific funds, how many people attend the Gridiron dinner every year at $1,000 per plate and once the drinks start flowing how many additional donations come in? How many $1,500 pavers have been sold so far?

You know that public schools just get this money given to them via tax dollars while privates have to go fundraise for it...right?

Why "should" they be going to the local public school? Because that's where their tax dollars go?

The school doesn't own the kid/family.

The parents can send their kid to whatever school they want to for whatever reason they want to.

What gets me about Inserra's comments is he's beaten numerous CCL schools over the years. Why come out in the media now to complain about them?

I'm rather shocked that a coach of his caliber has this stance and even more shocked he's putting this in the paper day 1 of camp.

What never gets talked about is the coaches.

Jordan Lynch is the best coach is the state. Before him, it was John Holecek. That's the main reason these schools are who they are.

Inserra has beaten Loyola numerous times in big games (quarterfinals, semifinals, state titles) but has lost (3) in a row and only scored a combined 20pts in those (3) games.

To me, he's just coming off as a whiner and a bad look for a really great coach.

Context matters. Just before the small section of my post you highlighted I was speaking specifically about transfers and I didn't limit it to the local public school, I said "transferring out of the district or 30 mile radius". If you want to send your child to a private school and pay the tuition of a school within a 30 mile radius of your home, I have zero issue with that. I'm specifically speaking to transfers for athletic only reasons if you read the entire post.

So he can't be a good coach and have teams capable of beating CCL teams and still think the 30 mile boundary is too large? Two things can be true at the same time.

It actually highlights an issue, apparently Colin doesnt think you can have concern for other people. If it doesnt affect him I guess he doesnt care.

Also, Inserra likely can see that playing within the boundaries of the rules for publics in IL its going to be nearly impossible to amass the type of talent to compete with a MC or Loyola. Thats for 8A schools, now imagine a 3A public having to deal with 8A Montini.

Pinched nerve here. He's an outstanding coach. He came in with about 90% of the fanbase upset over the way they moved on from Lenti. He had to have a group of players that came in under Lenti stay at MC and buy into what he wanted to do. He took over a team built for the Veer and totally revamped the offense and took them to the semifinals in his first year, next year with a team that had zero players he recruited and were still Lenti players and he won State.....He's outstanding at developing QB's. Both of the Dowling brothers were not the QBs that went to QB camps and personal training when they were young, they were tough South Side Neighborhood kids who played for their grade school and then played 3 other sports and he made them both record breaking D1 QBs. And they were not "Recruited", they are Legacy students and their last name is on the Football Stadium, they went there for tradition. Good coaching equals success and that results in good talent.

A great example of winning without the best talent is Cary Grove. Yes they have a few studs but overall they are undersized and get the most out of their kids. That to me is great coaching. What other schools don't have 7-8 D1 players but still win a lot of games? I can't think of too many other schools like that. Don't get me wrong I think guys like Lynch and Holecek are great coaches, but they are already a step ahead with the talent they have. My question is, could you put them at a solid 8A public school like Barrington and would they be perennial semi-finalists/finalists? I'm not sure.

I guess the better question is what coaches don't win but have great talent at their school? Public or Private.
