How would Jackie Daytona pronounce it. That is what I want to know.

I’m not a fan either. The burger has no flavor.
I'd never thought about that but it really doesn't. In fairness Sonics food had gotten kinda rough too, but the new smash burger is tasty.

Whataburger does get some props for having a patty melt - you don't see those nearly enough.

According to some people in my family who I won't out right now, it's "water-burger".

Come on, Aunt Tiny! Get it together!!!
"Water-burger" is actually correct. Then the pronunciation depends on how you say "water"

When I lived in Texas in the 90's, it wasn't bad, particularly after a night of heavy drinking. And their menu was pretty massive, with some really greasy Tex-Mex inspired items.

I dont know what happened regarding ownership and franchising, but the places I have tried East of the Mississippi are awful.

But even Sonic has more flavor in their burgers. The smash burger is good but it’s ridiculously expensive.

I get the patty melt if we get Whataburger. My favorite patty melt is Freddy’s.

Maybe just a local thing, but Sonic's burgers took a turn for the worse a few years ago and I cannot abide them any longer. Of course, since I'm in Baton Rouge it could just be a cross-contamination thing with all the corndogs they sell.

The love child of Bumpers and Sonic. They made her feel special and dressed her up so she could charge more for her wares, but in the end she is just a spicy, low rent ho.

So the letters WHATA should be pronounced as “wat-er”???

That’s just plain stupid as ****.
I think they forgot their sarcasterisks... at least I hope this was a joke and that this hamburger joint is not publicly endorsing the complete disintegration and de-evolution of the English language.

Culver’s is peak to me. I wish we had some around here.
Y'all have most of this right, but you're being too hard on Whata. It's at least in the second tier fast food joints, with Arby's and Sonic. Chicken joints are in a separate category, obviously.

Culver's
Freddy's

--gap--

Sonic/Whata/Arby's/Steak & Shake

--BIG gap--

Cookout/Wendy's/McD's/Taco Beezy

-- Grand Canyon--

Burger King/Krystal/DQ (food only, the blizzards are in the S tier of the dessert category)

So, it started in Corpus. People in South Texas pronounce "water" and "what a" the same way: "wadda"

I swear I lived in Houston for at least 3 months before I realized people were NOT saying "water burger". I was imagining a place that boiled or steamed their patties, and it sounded gross.

But, then, they pronounce the name of their city "You-ston". It all takes a little getting used to.

Can’t beat a Krystal burger about once every 5 years
