I don't think we would move on from Lebby if we win 6 this season but does that give you the warm and fuzzies going into year 4 of a Lebby regime.

It's improvement for 3 years in a row. As frustrating as last year was, we did improve our win total by 3 games. We probably would have won at least 6 last year if Lebby has fired his defensive 'coordinator' after the atrocity in year 1.
Honestly, looking at our schedule I just don't see more than 6 wins without an absolute miracle turnaround, and 6 wins is pushing it.

Of course 6 wins is enough. 5 might be. Honestly, if he wins 6, even I say you can't fire him. I wouldn't exactly have the warm fuzzies, but I'd definitely say it's better to keep him than take our chances on a new hire. Unless we just have Dan Mullen or another proven good coach locked down ready to come here.
6 wins in 2026 is probably = 7 wins prior to 2026 with the 9 SEC games. I think we have to retain him with 6 wins. It would be a challenge to be excited about it though.
If you're going with the "coulda woulda shoulda won this game or that game" theory, our offensive coordinator did as much or more to lose those games than our defensive coordinator did, even as bad as the DC was.
Assuming complete uncertainty about how this team will come together and play, just based on what we have seen from Lebby so far.

MN - toss up
USCe - likely loss
Missouri - likely loss
Alabama - loss
LSU - loss
Oklahoma - loss
Texas - loss
Vanderbilt - win
Auburn - toss up
TN Tech - win
Ole Miss - toss up
That's 3 wins, 3 toss ups and 6 losses for my pre-season prediction. I think that 6 wins would be a good showing and more than 6 we exceed pre-season expectations.

Wins and losses are how seasons and coaches are measured. It's a bottom line sport. No such thing as moral victories.
6 wins implies 2 wins over patsies, Minnesota, and 3 wins most likely from Vandy, Mizzou, AU, and USCe. Yeah that's going to keep a young coach his job given where we've been recently.
I'm not talking about moral victories. I'm talking about how the team looks vs. how good the other teams are. Assigning a specific win total to whether or not a coach is fired is not smart.
We lost but we looked good is pretty much the definition of a moral victory. At some point, a coach has to start turning those into wins. We've already got people claiming a couple of moral victories last year. A couple more this year and you have to start asking the question is Lebby a coach who can actually win these games or a coach who consistently loses them.
Definitely what will happen. Similar to the way it happened with Croom. And we'll be saddled with Heavy Lebby for 4-5 years

Short answer -- YES. Winning 6 means we likely sweep our non-conference games which includes P4 Minnesota on the road plus 3 SEC wins or if we lose that MN game then we would have won 4 SEC games. If either of those happen I don't see us moving on from Lebby given that's continued improvement. Just too much money to pay and having to start over again with likely another unproven guy. This year's 6-6 is at least equivalent to prior years' 7-5 anyway.

I hope so too. But they're MUCH more talented than we are. And other than Leach's last game, the Egg Bowl has been very much dominated by Mississippi lately.

I think with all the portal turnover each year, you can't really give a number at the beginning of the year. If you had said before last year started that we would win 5, take Tennessee to overtime, take Texas to overtime (and only lose because of a boneheaded penalty), and only lose to UF because of a dumb turnover before we could kick the winning field goal, I think most people would have said that would be a huge improvement for Lebby. But the schedule ended up being much more favorable than it looked at the beginning of the year, and nobody was really happy with the results.

6 W's this season will put him at 13-24 after 3 seasons. If you had been told when he was hired he'd be 13-24 after 3 seasons, would you have still wanted him? Oh hell naw you wouldn't............
I have heard a few rumors that Selmon is requiring 7 wins. I don't think he will be fired for 6-6 though. 5 or less and I think he is 100% gone.
After this year, he has 2 years left on his Bulldog Club contract. Keeping him with 6 wins is fine so long as they don't extend him. If they extend him after 6 wins, then it's a problem
It depends on the order and story of those six.
How we lose some games is important as well. If you're simply non-competive in the losses then it's a red flag.
If "find a way to lose" like we did a few times last year and you feel coaching played a part, that has to be taken into consideration.
If you lose two games because their kicker kicks a 57 ard FG as time goes out or you miss a couple of 35 yard game winner attempts, then there is more grace.

I still question the truth in this. Did it come from Selmon directly? In any case, if Lebby wins 6 games he won't be fired.
Well, between the players that got out of Dodge after Leach's death and the mismanagement of Arnett plus being WAY behind the 8 ball on NIL when Lebby arrived I'm willing to give the 2-10 first season a mulligan. If we go 6-6 this season he would be at 11-14 (11-13 for regular season games) for the past 2 seasons which I think is more indicative on determining what kind of coach he is. Not great by any means but I think good enough to get another season especially if Kamario looks like we hope he will look. And I'm very concerned that if we hire a new HC we will go get another assistant that will again have to go up the learning curve of being a HC. Seemingly we either won't or can't hire a successful G6 caliber HC that has actually successfully run a college program before. We hired Leach and that was working fairly well but outside of that and Sherrill we always seem to go the OC or DC hire route.
I get what you mean but I do not get wrapped up in a single win when I am trying to judge a trajectory of a program. No two wins are the same.
Ultimately at the end of the day, yes, any coach has to win games, no matter the expectation, in order to keep his job.
Depends on what we look like doing it. If we win 6 and struggle against cupcakes or continue to see horrible coaching decisions like last year then no its not enough.
