I miss 1990's college football as a whole. NIL has ruined what was once an awesome
NIL combined with the transfer portal being an open revolving door. “Developmental” programs are a quaint relic of the past. Deep pockets and the accumulation of talent NOW are the new reality. Elite players want to transfer into a high paying gig that is also winning enough to be high profile so that they can use their one or two years at a playoff caliber school to springboard them into the NFL.

We still have guys like Lindenmeyer and Justin Evans who have developed in to really good players from nothing. There will be more. There will be more.

Absolutely! There will always be players like that. Thank God. But would you agree that building a whole program around the developmental model, complete with old fashioned walk on programs, is not going to get you into a playoff contending situation these days? I don’t see it happening. Even the “Osborne model” required the infusion of elite talent to pepper in with the developmental guys. You weren’t going to win a national title with Jeff Quinn or Mike Grant. That required a Turner Gill or Tommie. But these days those kinds of players cost big bucks and they can transfer out at will.

Nebraska fans need to stop blaming NIL and transfer as the “demise” of college football and Nebraska. College football interest across the nation is at an all time peak and our demise started well before any of that.
Our problems aren’t because of NIL and Transfer portal but…..our path out of our problems could be capitalizing on NIL and transfers.

-College football attendance is at its all time lowest point since it peaked in 2008.
-College football is not popular with young adults relative to old adults and old adults are dying out.
-College football is getting locked behind more confusing and restrictive subs which is encouraging people to tune out or pirate it
-Nobody knows the people actually playing, cannot get invested because they will be gone in a year

My guess is that CFP ratings are doing great, and gambling numbers are up. If you can filter that out, most other measures of fan interest probably aren’t doing well.

It all started with Steve Pederson. Bad coach hires, bad AD hires. Losing records do not beget high quality players. Where are all the great RB's and OL men that used to come from NE high schools? Try to compete in a passing environment has not worked out at all.

What would the run vs pass ratio need to be to be considered a rushing offense?

However, pro football continues to be very, very popular…so if people want the feeder system to continue…they will continue to support college football.

What we have seen in one industry after another is that petulant greed does not see the consequences of its profit chasing. Getting a huge payday in 2026 is the most important factor and these people are so rich that "losing the sport" or "losing their jobs" just doesn't matter. The product in the NFL is nosediving because the product is getting dramatically worse at the college level. We just saw a semifinal game where the starting rb was a fourth string player who had to leave the transfer portal to play in the game with a chance to go to the national title. And he was competitive. The Indiana/Miami game was the lowest quality national title game in probably 40+ years. Compare the big name qbs in the NFL today vs. a decade ago. Burrow(barely plays), Baker Mayfield(?), Maye, Love, Purdy....vs. Manning, Brady, Brees. The theory as to why qb play has been so bad and the running game is coming back? Every defense plays tampa 2...lol. Qbs can't read it because they are used to just dumping to a bubble screen after a play-fake.

Where on earth do you come up with this nonsense? The NFL is at an all time high. Funny you don’t mention Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford. Joe Burrow is elite when he’s healthy (injuries happen, nothing new in football). Then go down a tier, Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, etc, etc. I’d argue the QB position has never been as talented as it is right now.

Indiana Miami championship game was lowest quality in past 40 years?? Based on what? There’s been plenty of clunkers over the years, but last year’s championship wasn’t one of them.

It’s amazing how off you are in all of these threads.
