Freddy P. made his Rays debut tonight. No bueno. 3.2 innings, 9 hits, 7 earned runs.
Went from 5 inning Freddy to 4 inning Freddy to can’t go 4 inning Freddy
How can somebody go so bad so quick unless he's hiding an injury? I was figuring he'd put up 7 innings of 1 hit ball with 10 k's, you know, the Mets curse removed.
Saw a breakdown on MLB network that showed very different mechanics from last year to this one.
He’s much more upright this year where last year he was more drop and drive.
Changes the plane on his pitches leaving it up in the zone.
Guess our new vaunted pitching coaches couldn’t figure it out. Maybe the Rays can.

That is not entirely true. If Mets land a top 6 pick, they still have the penalty, but it is imposed on the second round pick, not the first.no ten pick competitive balance penalty if Mets land a top 6 pick !

Besides the unique celebration after K's, Yan actually has a nice repertoire of pitches. Can certainly bring the heat at 100+.
David Stearns acquired 13 new players in trade. The least-regarded one already has a W. Can you imagine how good the other 12 must be? Who can question the genius of this man? 
Once it was clear that Robert wasn't going to be traded, Tauchman clearly had no role on the Mets. IMO they were correct in replacing Taylor, a speed and defense guy, with another speed and defense guy in Pache, even though Pache didn't look the part tonight.

Reminiscent of when Enrico Pallazo was an umpire once (and a heck of a singer too!):
OK - so, we have an idea of who our planned core is going to be for the next couple of years. We know what Soto is, and same with Lindor and I expect to see him moved to 3B or 2B in about 2 years. But if both are healthy- they will usually give you 2 very good to great offensive seasons.
Then- we have the 2 kids who are fun as hell to watch and have played above expectations. Both are also very good in the field. Benge seems to be a true 5 tool player. So- I expect him to be somewhere in a 20/20 or 30/30 type hitter with great D and arm in RF.
Ewing - Reminds me of old school players. Not as much power as Benge but could be a 20 HR type guy but 30+ SB each year and another good defender. My huge concern with him- is that he is supposed to be a very selective contact type hitter. But, he hasn't been drawing walks and strikes out at an alarming rate. Is this a concern or do you all think with more experience, he gets better.
And for the 2 of them- does the pitching around the league catch up to them or do they continue to grow? I think it will be the latter. And will be fun to watch.
I think Alveraz will still be here for a bit too- poor fielder but a solid hitting C.
Pitching- Core of McLean, Scott, Thorton I do feel McLean will have a solid top of the rotation type career so not worried about him.
So- we did pick up some prospect during the deadline- are any of them ready to do a Benge/Ewing next year (if there is a season?)
Would you all use some of the prospects for trades during the off season to get MLB players? Because the FA market is very weak next year. In case there is a 2027 - what would be the plan to have a .500+ team?

This situation brings to mind one of my favorite baseball rule quirks. It is possible, and it has happened, for a pitcher to strike out a batter whom he never faced! Anyone know how?
To your questions:
None of the position prospects acquired at the deadline are in AAA. Rojas (#1), Pitre, and Amick are in AA so I guess they are the closest. I would not expect any of them to make the opening day roster, although one or two may make it at some point in the season.
Yes, I fully expect a couple of the trade acquisitions to be flipped for MLB ready talent.
Also, I am not yet sold on Thornton. He does not have an out pitch. He is a "command over stuff" guy, with his plus tool being his control. Those guys pretty much have to be perfect.
Agree on Thornton- he really has to be perfect to be dominate. And with "challenges" you can no longer play a Maddox/Glavine cat and mouse game of being 2-3 inches off the plate and get it called in your favor.
And agree with your assessment on the prospects as well- And I am not sure we have any prospects that were already in the system that are ready next year either.
Some more pitchers will be ready for next that hopefully. Tong, Wenninger, Santucci.
Morabito bat wise should be thought of as an extra OF possibly. Clifford really fell off the proverbial cliff not sure if injury or something rude going on there. And yet they've managed to put up 5 runs at last check. And have us in good position for a sweep of a team who were buyers at the deadline because they're pushing for the postseason.
Just think, if this was the starting lineup on day 1 of the season, the Mets would be in the pennant race!!!!
I had previously posted that I thought this might be the weakest starting lineup the Mets had all season. I stand by the statement. Today, happily, they overperformed.
