That said, i have played tennis most of my adult life. I play at a 4.5 level. There are girls that can hang with the boys and I very much doubt a high school champion could beat a top, professional ladies player.
That's great. I played tennis in high school. I was ok- probably the 3rd best player on our team. When I was in college, I got to know a girl that also played high school tennis. She told me she was considered the 2nd best tennis player in her conference in high school. I could only go on her word as I had no idea.
We both found out we were still playing 2-3 times a week even in college when we were both freshman.
We played down at the courts outside the PE center on the USC campus 3 or 4 times. She beat me rather easily each time- although the last time we played it was close.
I was pretty bummed about it to be honest. I was faster, I was much stronger, but she had better touch than I did and her serve was more consistent in that she didn't make mistakes with her serve like I would because I could serve faster and would get lulled into trying to hit my 2nd serve faster than I should have and would screw that up too much. She didn't have a lot of pace on her shots though but she knew it.
It doesn't really mean anything but I also would play pick up tennis with two attorneys down at the courts that would show up in the evenings who were better players than I was but I always got a boost of confidence playing them because they both would tell me they thought I was a decent player for a college kid who was just bumming around at the courts.
Anyway, she smartly would mainly play defense against me until I made a mistake and that was her game with people that were faster than her. She would also serve and volley -and she was the only player I had ever played that would do that and I had real problems being pressured to try to hit a passing shot.
