Geep loved his counter schemes. Counter many different ways-g/t, inside zone with kickout by h, trap. You can gap block it too. The key is timing and a running quarterback who threatens with boot and waggle pass. Could be a nice package- the backs have to be very patient, This is one of the few things I’m looking forward to this season
I remember a time kids when we had a head coach who could and would dictate our entire offense and then his O line coaches would implement the line plan he wanted. Sigh.

with that said … we certainly could have made more of an effort to keep the best special teams coach in the country.

First of all, he’s a good special teams coach but probably not the best in the country. I get it. Lots of Husker fans have a man crush on the guy but it wasn’t always great last fall. Better. Heck yeah. Great? No. I’m not sure the love some feel for him is fully returned by Ek. He was in fact a mildcat.
It was one year after we had absolutely miserable special teams for years. Would have been nice to see what 2-3 years could do. I’m sure he’s an acquired taste in the coaching ranks but the results and eye test speak for themselves.
He’s never stayed long anywhere he’s been. His special teams were not anything more than an average SC should be able to produce IMO. We were awful previously.
I agree, but I was assuming we would build and be better in year 2 of Ek considering the depth we came from. Is your prediction that we will be better off on special teams with out Ek this year?
